What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy most when the students are able to have some takeaways from the 1-hour tutoring sessions. It shows that they learn something new during that tutoring session. It could be as simple as 'minus times minus equals positive'.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I would say being flexible in teaching approaches for students with different learning needs. I think it is particularly important as while I grown up in my home country, this does not exist and it had a really great impact on students who are weak in math and received no support for further improvement. I used to provide unpaid tutoring sessions for my juniors in high school and that was a point of time that I realize 'there are no bad students, only teachers who don't know how to teach'. Thus, I believe being flexible and having differentiation approaches are my biggest strength as a tutor as every child learn best in different ways.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
"Tutoring improves the tutee's self-esteem, attitude toward subject matter, and academic performance as well as personal growth." Indeed, from a personal viewpoint, tutoring is not only providing additional support for students to 'complete' their homeworks. Building student's self-esteem and stimulating their interest are equally important. I have came across students who are smart but they don't see the relevancy between math and real-world problems that demotivated them to study math. What I did was bringing in real-world issues, link with math concept, and that, triggers their interest.
