In my opinion, the most important things that a tutor can do for a student would be explaining concepts to them in ways that the individual student can understand as well as aiding them in memorisation and application of the concept tutored. Moreover, I strongly believe that it is extremely important for a tutor to leave a student without self…

I believe a tutor should inspire a student to reach for certain goals by first of all being an example of greatness him/herself or by pointing the student towards greatness. A tutor could achieve this by citing examples of great people whose names lived beyond them thus helping the student find purpose in life. Once the passion to become more and…

"Tutoring improves the tutee's self-esteem, attitude toward subject matter, and academic performance as well as personal growth." Indeed, from a personal viewpoint, tutoring is not only providing additional support for students to 'complete' their homeworks. Building student's self-esteem and stimulating their interest are equally important. I…

Local Reviews

I was very impressed with Adele for her knowledge, ability to teach and relate to my son, I was surprised how organised and aware of what level and subject matter my son would be working on at school. After only 2 lessons with her she managed to prepare him for an end of year test where he managed a B+. This is a large improvement to the D he received prior to her help! We will be seeing Addle again for sure.

Inside NorlaneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Phoebe worked on indices revision for her upcoming exam, focusing on applying index laws and simplifying expressions.

For Year 10, Jaden practised solving quadratic equations by factorising and reviewed the Pythagoras Theorem alongside introductory trigonometry using visual aids.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Arjun explored differentiation techniques including the chain rule and tackled problems involving derivatives of power functions to prepare for calculus assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, a student often left assigned homework incomplete, especially on factorising quadratics; as one tutor noted, "just finishing off the rest of the assigned questions" was still pending at lesson's end.

Meanwhile, in Year 7 number work, skipping written steps and guessing answers crept in during division drills—leading to "needs to focus and take more interest instead of guessing."

A Year 11 student struggled with surface area worded problems due to over-reliance on memorised rules rather than careful reading. This led to missed marks when interpreting exam-style questions under timed conditions.

Recent Achievements

A Norlane tutor noticed that Phoebe, a high school student who once felt unsure about indices and surds, now confidently completes these problems on her own and agreed she no longer needs help in this area.

Another recent win involved clarifying tricky compound interest questions—after extra practice on exponential growth and decay, Phoebe began solving similar tasks with ease and much less hesitation than before.

In a Year 3 session, one student who previously rushed through addition exercises took more care and managed to get most two-digit sums correct without prompting, showing clear improvement in accuracy and focus during their last set of practice questions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Corio Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Thomas Aquinas School.
