The most important things a tutor can do for a student is by understanding the student first on what its weakness or strengths lies on. Then deliver theories based on the insight gained. One of the biggest skill a tutor can have is making the lessons engaging and fun to be a part of it. What I do is engage the students through the lesson by using…

In my opinion the most important things a tutor can offer a student is confidence and guidance. This is because as a tutor, building a student's confidence can directly impact their attitude towards learning and how well they can achieve the marks they are aiming for. Similarly, by giving guidance to a student, not only prompts them into learning…

This involves understanding the student's strengths and weaknesses, their willingness to work hard and have fun, and enjoyment in the topic. Genuineness and Inspiration - A student can…

MENTOR/TUTOR It is important that tutors have a friendly approach to students and make sure that students set a goal for every lesson. This way as a tutor we know that the student knows what is being taught and ensure the student understands the concepts. I believe that all providers of education should not only prepare a student for an exam, but to open the student's eyes to the wider world, where they can explore their passions. In this way, I consider confidence an important aspect that a tutor can provide to a student. School can sometimes feel so impossible, when sitting in a large classroom…

I believe the most important thing is to help and guide students through the HSC period, and their choices after the HSC. Inside Voyager PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Lara worked through right-angled trigonometry and bearings, applying diagrams to visualise angle problems.

For Year 8, Ethan practised factorising algebraic fractions and also tackled multiplying and dividing fractions in context.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael focused on negative integers—adding, subtracting, and multiplying them—and reviewed strategies for exam-style questions involving these concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on algebra was observed hesitating before writing answers, often second-guessing herself even when the process was correct; "she needs to be more confident in her calculations," one note read.

In Year 4 maths, there were repeated instances of confusing times tables and forgetting to add a zero in multiplication, causing her to pause mid-problem and check with the tutor for reassurance.

When tackling negative integers in Year 9, confusion set in after -15, slowing progress and increasing uncertainty.

These moments led to lost momentum during lessons and reliance on immediate feedback rather than independent practice.

Recent Achievements

One Voyager Point tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to wait for correction now spotting her own mistakes and trying extra questions without prompting, especially in algebra.

Another high school learner is getting quicker at identifying when to use formulas for similar triangles, and has started explaining his reasoning out loud—something he avoided before.

With a Year 4 student, there's been real progress memorising times tables; she now attempts the 7s and 8s by herself after struggling with recall last term, and last session completed all the division sums independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holsworthy Public School.
