As a tutor, it is important to not just teach the questions but to teach the concept. This is vital as the ability to adapt to new questions and situations will not only help them with their studies but further in life. Learning math isn't about learning how to do the questions but about finding the correct approach to tackle questions, it builds…

Tutor Embleton, WA
I place a lot of emphasis on the student's understanding of the subject material. Science and Math is about understanding and connecting concepts rather than memorizing. Secondly, I will examine the student's problem solving process, and guide them to improve their workflow. Thirdly, I make the subject interesting and relevant to the student…

Tutors can be a great source of inspiration to a student to do more and learn more. The knowledge that we could share to a student would be the greatest gift anyone could share as an individual or as a tutor. So, if at least one student is benefited with my knowledge and inspired to do more than just the ordinary that could be the greatest impact…

For the student to achieve the best possible grade, as well as making sure they are actually enjoying themselves with me, I would make sure they are getting the best academic result however I would want to make sure that they are having fun, and that allows me to have their full attention which makes my job easier as i can teach without me…

Andre has been of great assistance to our son. He takes the time to explain concepts and ask questions to encourage our son to think about the math problems. I would highly recommend Andre

Inside West SwanTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Myra focused on mixed, proper, and improper fractions as well as addition and subtraction of decimals, with extra practice using worded problems for her upcoming test.

For Year 9, Sarah tackled index laws and converting between surd and indice forms, followed by revision of simultaneous equations ahead of a school assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ethan worked through algebra basics including expanding brackets and factorising, alongside an introduction to surds to support his first topic in senior maths.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student arrived without prepared notes for a test and had lost key materials, relying heavily on reference sheets rather than independent recall—he was unable to do many questions without help of his notes.

In Year 9 algebra sessions, skipping proper layout in answers made it difficult to spot errors when rearranging equations.

For a Year 6 student, worded maths problems often led to confusion; rushing into guesses instead of working through the question carefully meant she missed vital information.

These patterns resulted in time spent re-explaining concepts or retracing steps, delaying progress during lessons.

Recent Achievements

In a West Swan tutoring session, one high school student who previously hesitated to speak up now comfortably ask for help whenever she's confused, even explaining her reasoning out loud as she works through equations—a big shift from earlier lessons.

Another older student began taking the initiative to complete all her English homework ahead of time and could clearly explain how she arrived at each answer, showing much more independence than before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 girl who was once terrified of division managed to use her times tables confidently and solved multi-digit division problems without fear by the end of the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Midland Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caversham Primary School.
