The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to develop their skills to a high level or a level higher than what is was prior to tutoring - essentially to boost their competence and confidence for the subject area they are being tutored for. Another objective includes motivating the student to enjoy maths (or any other subject) beyond…

Inspiring the student to think logically and teaching the methods instead of simply showing solutions. Strength: I have a solid understanding of fundamental theories, I am good at converting a solution into a logical sequence so that the students understand the method instead of simply memorizing it. Weakness: I sometimes overcomplicate the…

The most important thing I believe a tutor can do for a student is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment. It is to be someone that can positively influence and motivate students to work hard, boost their confidence and overcome any of their problems. Motivate. If a tutor can motivate a student to do whatever they want, The student will succeed in life. Motivation won't only drive my students to improve in mathematics but also other subjects. Other than knowing my mathematics, I believe I am an easy teacher. I make the work look easy for the students, so their mentality towards the work is…

Inside Wiley ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia focused on identifying and simplifying ratios, as well as writing equivalent ratios using practical examples.

In Year 8, Noah worked through scale drawings by applying unit conversions for length and distance in worded problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sarah reviewed half-yearly exam topics such as operations with fractions, decimals, and percentages, including their application to financial questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left working out incomplete, especially units in ratio and geometry questions, leading to lost marks—"she needs to develop the habit of writing FULL working out, including all units," as one tutor observed.

In a Year 9 algebra session, she relied heavily on calculators for fraction and percentage conversions instead of practicing by hand, which slowed her confidence with mixed exam questions.

During primary revision, a student skipped over worded multiplication problems without breaking them down into steps or checking their layout; this made it hard to spot mistakes before moving on.

In high school sessions, not creating summary notes or revisiting foundational skills before exams meant she guessed answers under pressure and forgot key processes after breaks.

Recent Achievements

A Wiley Park tutor noticed a big shift in one high school student's approach to assessments—after usually waiting until the last minute, she began working on her logbook and portfolio the same day they were assigned, bringing creative ideas to her project.

Another high schooler who previously hesitated with "hard" ratio problems now completes similar questions independently after just a brief explanation.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to struggle when subtracting smaller numbers from larger ones is now confidently using borrowing without prompting, finishing subtraction exercises with no errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lakemba Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lakemba Public School.
