It's about creating a safe and trusting environment where they feel heard and supported at every step. When students feel genuinely understood and encouraged, they’re more…

A tutor should not have a barrier which could act as a wall between the tutor and students. he/she should be passionate about learning new things and passing them to their students. My passion and my discipline is my biggest strength. I am calm and approachable around students and I…

On of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is make sure they understand the concept fully and understand how a formula was found instead of just using it to solve problems. I also believe it is important to make sure things are explained intuitively to students to help them understand the specifics of a topic better. Lastly, I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is ensure the student understands the content, and doesn't just get the marks if they don't understand the content properly. They also need to be someone who the student can feel comfortable talking to and asking questions, regardless of how 'silly' the question may seem. Good communication…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to understand what the student needs and work through those blocks with positive reinforcement. Some students have a hard time understanding concepts while others have no faith in themselves and struggle to retain information. A tutor can encourage a student to better themselves, to reach simple goals and then challenge them further to be the best. I feel achieved when the student starts asking complex question as the day passes by, to the point where you have to give the answer a second thought. I believe a tutor should adapt to the student's learning style. Beyond that, I also consider building a strong bond with the student, creating a supportive and comfortable environment, setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, and instilling a sense of confidence and self-efficacy to be equally important. Ultimately, the goal is to…

The most important thing a tutor can provide I believe is confidence. This is because students' belief in their abilities will provide them with the clear and confident mind necessary to tackle difficult problems. To motivate him/her, and pave the way for him/her to become autonomous with his/her learning. This is typically done by instilling in the student a number of good learning habits. I always wish that there should not be any weak students, so I used to teach by focusing to their weaknesses. Even though it was basic for students to know, I just teach them again to make them easy. I've always been hesitant to answer questions in class because I feared being wrong. At home when my parents asked me that same question, I answered without the fear of being wrong. I believe tutors exist to help extend the foundations of what students are taught in schools, whether it be through analysing old concepts with a finer view or reinforcing newer concepts with carefully selected examples and analogies. I believe I am quite capable of exercising patience when a student is trying to understand the subject, trying to…

Local Reviews

Our daughter is enjoying having someone (who isn't either of her parents, and has more patience than we do as well!) take her step by step through what she doesn't 'get' and then work out strategies that will help her understand what the question is asking and how to approach it.
Roisin, Winston Hills

Inside Winston HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Kent focused on solving simultaneous equations and revising trigonometry concepts, including working through bearing problems with diagrams.

Year 11 student Miles worked on factorisation techniques and deepened understanding of logarithms, using real-world word problems to reinforce concepts.

Meanwhile, another Year 10 student tackled coordinate geometry by practicing mid-point and distance formulas as well as plotting points on graphs for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student arrived without finishing several homework pages, making it difficult to identify which skills needed extra support.

In Year 11, "she didn't complete any homework from the exam booklet I created for her"—missing out on practice that could have boosted confidence before assessments.

One Year 5 learner struggled to set out multiplication working neatly, often omitting steps: as a tutor wrote, "needs to structure out work in a manner that ables others to understand progress."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student kept forgetting formulas between lessons and had trouble applying them under timed conditions during class quizzes.

Recent Achievements

One Winston Hills tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously rushed through algebra questions is now taking time to structure her working, which has led to fewer errors and better marks in class quizzes.

A Year 9 boy, who used to hesitate when stuck, is starting to ask the tutor clarifying questions instead of giving up—a real shift towards independent problem-solving.

In a recent Year 4 session, a student who often avoided homework arrived with it completed and could explain her methods out loud before tackling new material.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Baulkham Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Winston Hills Public School.
