A tutor can assist student in understanding the concepts more clearly and a tutor can mold a student's focus on the subject. A tutor is a constant reminder for a student to choose the right techniques for study. A tutor can explain the nuances of not just learning concepts but also to reciprocate them in the exam. My patience with students and my…

The best thing any Tutor can do is make a student like a particular subject which she/he used to previously dislike. This means that the Tutor has made a boring subject interesting to the students. And in this way, the student will remember what he/she learns for a lifetime and not just for the purpose of examinations. I am a very patient Tutor,…

A tutor needs to be understanding, and respectful. They must realise that students don't all learn at the same pace and thus must be able to maintain the learning pace with their student. They must also be respectful that student's are trying their best and must not be too pushing and must remain patient with their student. I am knowledgable in…

A tutor is someone who can help to support and strengthen students' self-efficacy one-on-one. This is extremely important as classroom teachers have to manage multiple students in a classroom and cannot provide the same undivided attention as a tutor can. Tutors instil confidence in their students, assist them in unpacking and understanding areas…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is talk to them. A tutor should directly ask the student what they are struggling with in class and what they need assistance with. The student should feel comfortable asking the tutor questions about schoolwork. This is important as a tutor provides a student with much more direct and focused…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are provide academic guidance, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these factors can potentially reinvent a class, subject, or school more broadly for a young learner. Coming prepared to every session. The session is a time for the student to ask and have questions answered, not a time for the tutor to finally decide what should be done that lesson. This doesn't mean there's a rigid structure that doesn't change, but a combination of structure to follow, as well as being prepared for if the student is behind or…

Responding and adapting to their learning needs. Confidence is a key element that tutors can either instil or take away from a student. All children are born with a capacity to learn and it is our job to help them realise their great potential. In saying that, tutors must always be kind, encouraging and supportive of a child so that they can be confident enough to venture into the unknown and…

To learn the nature of the student's mind and how their brain processes information, so that a lesson plan can be tailored to their specific needs. Inside WollertTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Jugnu worked on understanding High Court interpretation and statutory interpretation in legal studies, reviewing major parts of Unit 4 content.

A Year 11 student focused on the doctrine of precedent and practiced structuring answers for exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Garry explored decimal operations—conversion, ordering, rounding—and reviewed place value concepts using practical examples.

Recent Challenges

Not breaking down exam-style questions led to missed marks for a Year 12 student; the tutor noted: "Needs improvement with answering exam-style questions."

In Year 11, anxiety about Mechanics topics caused the focus to shift toward quickly finishing homework instead of building understanding—leaving concepts shaky for tests.

For a Year 8 English essay, skipped proofreading meant grammar and paragraphing issues slipped through.

In Year 5 maths, rushing mental calculations caused avoidable errors and gaps in times tables recall. The result was frustration during timed assessments when familiar mistakes reappeared.

Recent Achievements

A Wollert tutor noticed a Year 12 student who used to struggle with interpreting exam questions now actively chooses the quickest method to solve problems and clearly explains her reasoning.

In a recent Year 9 English session, Garry—who previously hesitated to structure his essays—successfully planned out paragraphs and integrated stronger arguments without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who was once unsure about decimal place values independently wrote each number in the correct spot during practice, no reminders needed. At the end of that lesson, she confidently ordered several decimals on her own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mernda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wollert Primary School.
