It can be overwhelming to feel confused or left behind in school which can eventually affect your self-confidence. Tutoring gives students a safe space to learn at their own pace without feeling judged or incapable. My greatest strength as a tutor would be my patience and ability to simplify complex concepts in ways students can relate to. I can…

i believe the most important thing a tutor can do for there student is to know the content, formulas and multiple approaches of applying the content so that the student can learn the content in the approach that suit them. I believe that my current knowledge and use of both math and physics in my current engineering degree would assist me greatly…

No doubt a teacher can have a long lasting impact on his students . By Spending long hours with your students, the one can easily become their role model, or perhaps their first platonic love. A teacher can help their student to form a healthy opinion of the world by asking a right question and giving them some food for thought. The passion for my…

I think a good tutor will be supportive of the student no matter what level they are at. If they get something wrong, always support them to discover the correct answer in a way that will help them learn. Rather than tell them how to do something exactly, help them learn how they can discover the solutions themselves, as someone wont always be…

Be able to come up with a of going about problems that arise in mathematics in a way that works for the student as each student is different. I count my ability to make sure a person is comfortable and feel as though they are able to talk freely with me at any time as a strength, a weakness would be when I find it difficult in making someone…

I understand that a tutor can significantly reduce the burden of academic chores off the shoulders of a student and hence support the efforts towards more productive activities. The success factor, to a large extend, depends upon the individual effort and determination of the student. However, tutor can ensure that the student's effort is used…

Inspire the student to enjoy learning. Try to impart an understanding of the concept, not just how to do some things from memory, this will enable them to work out any question that is thrown at them. I can identify with the mindset of students. Where they are at in their understanding of the subject and how to bring them to the next level. I am…

Listening to the student, instead of simply talking at the student. Helping the student gain a mindset for actively learning the material and developing confidence in the subject. As briefly mentioned in the question above, the most important things tutor can do for a student is to not make the experience another class that "drags on". Interacting with the student on a level where he/she can enjoy or be intrigued by the work is essential. To do this, you cannot let the theories from a textbook stay as theories.…

Academic and mental prepartion aside, a tutors main role is to make the student see the beauty in the subject. Making the student understand how beautiful a subject is the greatest achievement for any teacher. My stregnths would be my solid foundation in the basics. That is key to make anyone understand anything. A solid foundation in the basics…

To really understand where the student is coming from. Far too often throughout my own life I have been frustrated with the way in which teachers and tutors treat you as just another student and bulldoze you with an answer before you've even managed to get you question out. Help them develop the skills they need to learn, not just teach them specific material. Patience. Once we know something, it's easy to forget how we actually learnt that content. Therefore, it's important to always be persistent with someone's learning, and to never just keep using the same method then give up. Another aspect is structure. If you give students an expectation and guidance in what they need to do, it's more…

Inside Airport WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava revised solving linear equations involving brackets and multiple x terms, and practiced rearranging equations into y = mx + c for graphing.

In Year 10, Daniel focused on statistics by identifying mean, median, mode, outliers and constructing boxplots using a CAS calculator with real data sets.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Annabelle worked on multiplication tables and applied spelling strategies during reading aloud to strengthen both numeracy and literacy skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Physics, one student struggled with choosing the correct reference frame for projectile motion and occasionally copied calculator answers incorrectly, particularly decimals—"needs to practice being more careful when transcribing answers from the calculator to the paper."

In Year 10 Maths, skipping written steps in algebra meant sign errors went unnoticed until much later.

For a Year 7 student, homework was left incomplete after an illness; this break disrupted his recall of area and perimeter rules during revision.

In primary years, over-reliance on calculators or "rushing" through reading led to misread words or missed grammar cues, leaving comprehension gaps mid-story.

Recent Achievements

One Airport West tutor noticed that a Year 11 student who used to skip steps when simplifying surds is now carefully writing out each stage, which helps him avoid confusion and stay organised through multi-step problems.

In Year 10, another student who often hesitated to check calculator work has started using her intuition to spot errors and will now double-check large calculations independently instead of waiting for guidance.

Meanwhile, in primary school, Annabelle began applying fractions from her lesson to everyday life—before the session ended, she was already describing her lunch in fractions and explaining her thinking unprompted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon Keilor College-Niddrie Campus.
