Tutoring requires a great deal of patience and empathy, as students may struggle with difficult concepts or lack confidence in their abilities. A great tutor is able to create a supportive environment for the student. A tutor should also be flexible and be able to adapt to different teaching styles depending on the individual needs of different…

I believe having a tutor who is there for you can make a real difference to your study mentality as a student. I personally found great improvement after taking physics tutoring, and went from hating the subject to it being my passion. I am a clear, capable communicator with strong critical thinking skills, equipping me with the toolkit for…

A tutor must understand that students don't all learn the same. So being able to understand the students needs and learning style is essential to then cater for the students own individual needs. Since I've been tutored as a student for around 8 years with many tutors I was able to observe different ways tutors taught and they're effectiveness on…

Local Reviews

I am very happy with my son's tutor so far. We have only had 2 sessions & already my son is doing his homework after school everyday, without being asked. He also is impressing his tutor with his knowledge. They both relate with each other & I can see good things for my son's future.

Inside ArcadiaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Daniel focused on algebraic expressions and using diagrams to solve problems involving the interior angles of quadrilaterals.

Year 7 Lukas tackled triangle angle sums with step-by-step written methods, alongside NAPLAN-style questions covering pattern recognition and probability.

For Year 8, Jamie practised applying Pythagoras' Theorem to right-angled triangles and manipulating variables in algebraic equations for unknown sides, strengthening both geometry and equation-solving skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was regularly leaving large portions of schoolwork unmarked and struggled to accept the importance of reviewing his own answers—"he had some difficulties accepting that he would need to mark his work."

In Year 10, one student often tried to group steps or solve algebra in his head, leading to calculation errors; this habit slowed progress on topics like rearranging equations.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hadn't yet mastered setting out solutions formally, especially after breaks ("holiday brain" made it harder to restart routines).

When feedback is not taken up or written work remains incomplete, gaps persist unnoticed and improvement stalls.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Arcadia noticed Tom, a high school student, now tackles multi-part algebra questions with far more independence—he interprets graphs and connects them to equations without waiting for hints, whereas he previously needed step-by-step prompting.

Another recent session saw Will, also in high school, shift from relying on guesswork with picture graphs to carefully weighing information before reaching a conclusion.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student demonstrated a big leap by moving from confusion with multiplication word problems to accurately solving complex examples involving both multiplication and division.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Galston Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Arcadia Public School.
