To help the student love learning and feel like they genuinely want to continue their education because they want to and not because they feel forced by any social pressures. Also to help them figure out what kind of field they would like to pursue as a career they will enjoy. I believe one of my greatest strengths is breaking down and…

A tutor is there both to teach content and to improve a student's study habits. Seeking advice from teachers, peers, and my past tutor, I have developed helpful study skills and I recognise inefficient habits. I have gained an appreciation for tuning study practices to the individual for optimal results. Learning to work with my ADHD has…

Biology Tutor Middle Dural, NSW
The tutor needs to care about the student's learning. They need to understand the way each student learns best and mould their pedagogy to fit the student. The tutor needs to be able to recognise consistency in errors so that they can make the student aware of where they are going wrong and can help fix it. The tutor also needs to be patient and…

I think the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student are being an attentive and listening mentor, ready to help with any issues. As a tutor, I think being able to shape and mould your lessons around the needs of the student is also a very important skill, and in doing so they can help the student achieve their goals. I think some…

Push the student to be the best they can be, igniting a passion for the subject which causes them to put the work in both in class and in their own studies. I am passionate about the subjects I want to teach, allowing me to potentially share that passion with students. I am patient as i understand the struggle of topics, especially year 12…

Helping the student learn from our lessons. To have a positive impact on their learning, which is important for me to give a high quality experience of learning to them. Furthermore, a good guidance system from all aspects of the tutoring should be positive reinforcement for the students, to ensure that they maintain goodwill towards learning.…

It's important for a biology tutor to help a student get the correct answer, but more importantly it is critical that the student understands the concept behind which the answer was based. It is important for a tutor to be able to communicate with the individual in the way which is best suited for the student so that they can efficiently grasp the…

I think the most important thing a biology tutor can do is make a student feel empowered by realising that they are capable of achieving their goals in the classroom. I believe that this realisation comes about when they understand that at a young age especially, intelligence is not fixed but able to grow when they challenge themselves. I think…

A tutor should be a supportive platform that can allow for the student to grow from and learn to work independantly and learn new skills and techniques. They should be friendly and understanding too. One of my strengths as a tutor is patience. I understand the need for being patient when explaining the methods of working out problems. Also having…

One of the most important things is to care. A tutor should genuinely care about the student's development and do their very best to help the student in every possible way. It is also important for the tutor to teach their students to be independent. I can approach shy students and not be an intimidating figure. I am also patient and do not rush…

Local Reviews

I am very happy with my son's tutor so far. We have only had 2 sessions & already my son is doing his homework after school everyday, without being asked. He also is impressing his tutor with his knowledge. They both relate with each other & I can see good things for my son's future.

Inside ArcadiaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Daniel focused on algebraic expressions and using diagrams to solve problems involving the interior angles of quadrilaterals.

Year 7 Lukas tackled triangle angle sums with step-by-step written methods, alongside NAPLAN-style questions covering pattern recognition and probability.

For Year 8, Jamie practised applying Pythagoras' Theorem to right-angled triangles and manipulating variables in algebraic equations for unknown sides, strengthening both geometry and equation-solving skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student was regularly leaving large portions of schoolwork unmarked and struggled to accept the importance of reviewing his own answers—"he had some difficulties accepting that he would need to mark his work."

In Year 10, one student often tried to group steps or solve algebra in his head, leading to calculation errors; this habit slowed progress on topics like rearranging equations.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hadn't yet mastered setting out solutions formally, especially after breaks ("holiday brain" made it harder to restart routines).

When feedback is not taken up or written work remains incomplete, gaps persist unnoticed and improvement stalls.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Arcadia noticed Tom, a high school student, now tackles multi-part algebra questions with far more independence—he interprets graphs and connects them to equations without waiting for hints, whereas he previously needed step-by-step prompting.

Another recent session saw Will, also in high school, shift from relying on guesswork with picture graphs to carefully weighing information before reaching a conclusion.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student demonstrated a big leap by moving from confusion with multiplication word problems to accurately solving complex examples involving both multiplication and division.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Galston Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Arcadia Public School.
