Personally, I think it is important to boost students' confidence in their abilities by providing positive reinforcement and constructive feedback. Additionally, promote analytical thinking and problem-solving skills rather than just memorisation of facts. And finally, offer emotional support and encouragement, helping students manage stress and…

As a tutor it is crucial to deeply understand the ambitions and goals of each student; their current level, and where they want to end up or what they want to achieve. This helps the tutor and student to create realistic but valuable goals, and underlying expectations throughout the experience. I think that as a tutor, I have strengths in truly…

I believe that teaching is not about pumping a student with exam papers or to make them memorise the answers and get good grades, for my satisfaction. But about really making sure the student understands a concept, so that they have a strong foundation and can apply to it many different question styles. This will actively stimulate creativity and…

A tutor can be the perfect guidance. Besides, a tutor should have abilities to understand the performance of an individual and carry on the task in an easy and correct way. A tutor always should be smart and capable to conduct the task as per the student's abilities. As I have already worked as a teacher for more than three years before. The…

Understand them and their learning habits. If a tutor does not understand their student, they can never excel at tutoring that student or almost anyone. Helping a student grow and evolve. The most important thing a tutor can do is to actually listen to their student. If they are not being receptive to feedback, and the student is not learning, then there is no progress being made. Rather, there has to be an active conversation between tutor and student that helps communicate the student's needs. I think I'm really receptive to a…

Inspire students to understand the importance and broader concepts within mathematics. Also translate the mathematics to a way a student can understand - perhaps look at it more graphically, or by using a real world example - and by breaking down a complex problem into simple, easy to understand parts. Inside Ascot ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack focused on addition and subtraction sums, completing a practice test to reinforce mental calculation skills.

In Year 10, Emily worked through Pythagoras' theorem in geometry problems from her school workbook and explored applications of square roots for right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Lucas reviewed acid-base reactions—including strong and weak acids—and practiced titration calculations with real-world examples, also discussing when to use different pH indicators.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Chemistry, one student was advised to revise more frequently, but outside-of-tutoring revision remained inconsistent—"there appears to be a lack of proactive seeking for information regardless of whether this was specified by the tutor or not." This resulted in gaps persisting between sessions, especially with equation balancing and bonding types.

A Year 11 Physics student delayed assignment drafts until close to deadlines; earlier completion would have allowed time for corrections.

In Year 7 Maths, calculator reliance was noted: "needs to learn calculation without using calculator," making it harder to develop fluency in mental arithmetic during practice sets.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ascot Park recently noticed some encouraging shifts among students.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Lu-Anne has moved from struggling to connect concepts to independently solving the final question of a complex equilibrium task—something she previously found daunting. She's now actively asking questions and explaining her reasoning during sessions, which is a big change from earlier lessons where she stayed quiet.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 Physics student who often rushed through problems began using diagrams to catch mistakes and now consistently spots errors as they occur.

In Year 5 Maths, one student started completing percentage problems with less prompting and explained his steps out loud for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Park Holme Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sports College South Australia - Edwardstown Oval.
