Listening to a student is the most important thing a tutor can do. It allows you to prepare better for future sessions and meet the needs of the students. It also helps you modify your teaching approach to keep the students engaged in the class. I believe my approach to teaching is efficient as I break down concepts to the basics and use multiple…

I'll be constantly challenging them to solve problems on their own, in a way that could force them to think independently and more efficient. - Build up…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to understand the pupil’s learning style and adapt the teaching to which best suits the pupil. It is imperative to understand that everyone absorbs knowledge differently and thus it is importantly that a tutor understands that and adapts accordingly. My greatest strength is my ability to understand…

Illustrating the solution, explaining with the right examples, respecting everyone's views and value every question however simple it maybe. Making the discourse interesting and interactive. These are the most important things a tutor must deliver while teaching students. Simplifying complex topics with day to day examples is what I do. I will not…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create an environment where the student can learn. Invoke curiosity in students' minds and the rest can automatically get fixed. I think one extremely important thing a tutor can do is to adapt their teaching to the individual needs and abilities of each student, and adapt themselves to the student, not force the student to adapt to them. This involves listening to the student and observing how they work and then responding to those things. Another extremely important thing…

If I can make a student begin thinking more about the subject than just a grade to obtain, I would have felt that I made one more curious person. I can make the student not only competent, but also comfortable and confident in a certain topic. I understand how stressful hard subjects can be. I want to take away the feeling of fear when students enter a class they think they're not good in. Another thing is teaching a student to be an autodidact. I was fortunate enough to know this tactic…

Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

I think a good tutor is beyond just a subject matter expert and can be conducive to the development of the student as a whole. I feel the concept of tutoring is very personal and that a tutor should make a student feel comfortable enough to encourage him/her to view the tutor as a confidante. Furthermore, there's the added advantage of being able…

Thanking Silvana so much for her monthly report of Ayesha and Ashanti's progress. It's wonderful to see how Ezy maths and tutor's work with our children and specialise to each need, to reach the child's goals. Very impressed thank you so much Silvana.

Inside BalgaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Lily worked through probability basics by using real-life examples and practiced fundamental algebra skills including substitution.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on solving linear equations and interpreting Cartesian planes with graph plotting.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ava tackled statistics revision with normal distribution concepts and applied these to biological data sets for practical understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student in Math showed reluctance to write out full working, with one note stating, "just needs to provide more working; but is now more consistently good." This led to confusion when reviewing solutions for test prep.

In Biology (Year 12), limited access to material made revision harder—"must somehow gain access to more material," a tutor observed—so extra research was required just to keep pace.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student's messy written layout in algebra sometimes hid sign errors, causing time lost double-checking basic steps instead of building confidence.

Recent Achievements

A Balga tutor recently noted a high school student who had struggled with essay writing found a new voice, now expressing ideas more clearly after weeks of hesitance.

Another secondary student who used to avoid revision is now taking thorough notes independently for the first time and sticking to this process during sessions.

In primary, one child processed tricky information slowly but persisted until understanding clicked—showing real determination compared to earlier frustration.

Last session, a Year 10 student completed most of their at-home section before tutoring even began, showing initiative that hadn't been there before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mirrabooka Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Balga Primary School.
