The most important things in which a tutor can do for a student is that make a student feel fun and love to study when he or she is studying. Because when I was a student, I received a great opportunity that I had studied with the great tutors. They are the important persons who made me to be a person who love studying and deeply understand in…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is provide a learning environment free from both the rigid structure and inherent judgement present in centres of mass education. A calmer, more personal environment allows the establishment of time tables and study plans more conducive to the individual student. There is also…

motivation, encouragement, and guidance. for me, tutoring is not about giving a subject material and that's it, the parents will leave with their child, therefore, you have to be trustworthy, and show them that he will be better not only as a student but also as a human. other than technical abilities, motivation and enthusiasm to the students,…

I think the key thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that their individual learning habits are in order, creating an essential degree of independence. I have found it extremely valuable to ensure students develop a solid work ethic and understand how they can study effectively. In this sense tutoring plays a supplementary role, ensuring…

I think the most important thing is to give students proper guidance, especially to give some advice when they have difficulties in their studies and help them find the right solution and study method for themselves. I am full of patience and have a smiling face. I study Medical Physics both for my bachelor's and master. This major has allowed me…

I think a good tutor is supposed to firmly believe that every child can achieve success in each subject regardless of any individual difficulties even with special needs. Based on that mindset, a good tutor also need to provide motivation, learning strategies, monitoring and other generic skills such as problem-solving skills and so on to the…

It is important to be patient and approachable so that students feel comfortable coming to you with their queries. Availability and dependability is also important. If a student has last minute issues the night before their exam it is important that they can rely on their tutor to get back to them by the end of the day with an answer. I am patient…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is adapt to suit their needs. Whilst many tutors can simply pass on content, a strong tutor is capable of teaching content in a way that suits the learning needs of a student. This may include using different communication methods, teaching at different paces and understanding the students…

To help a student walk the right path that he/she desires. A tutor should understand a students passion and dream and help them achieve this dream. Acknowledging one's own failure and encouraging students to learn from his/her mistakes rather than losing hope. Building confidence is the most important thing a tutor can possibly do for a student. It's very important for a tutor to listen a student's worry points and problems and guide him accordingly to overcome them without breaking his confidence. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is first and foremost to be patient and never give a student the feeling that he/she won’t be able to do a certain tasks or in general become better at a certain subject. Moreover you should be really flexible in the way you teach things, because everybody learns and understand things…

Inside BarangarooTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Ava focused on advanced trigonometry by reviewing her recent test and then moved on to polynomials, tackling chapter exercises and logs.

Year 10 student Tom worked through several lessons on quadratics and linear relations, with sessions dedicated to solving worded problems using algebraic methods.

For a Year 3 primary student, time was spent practising addition and subtraction strategies as well as developing reading comprehension skills through short passages.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student repeatedly avoided writing full working for rearranging equations—"she said, 'I just get stuck at the start,' and would hesitate to begin unless prompted."

In a senior English assignment, another left their TEEL structure incomplete and was reluctant to link arguments back to topic sentences, resulting in an unfinished draft.

A Year 11 student struggled with domain and range because revision focused only on familiar problems rather than tackling new question types; this left them underprepared for tests requiring flexible thinking.

After setbacks, confidence dropped sharply and questions went unasked, making progress slower than expected.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Barangaroo recently noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitation, started tackling circle geometry questions on her own and now attempts problems independently before asking for help.

In a Year 12 session, Martina made real progress—she stopped relying on example solutions and now remembers formulas well enough to solve algebraic fraction questions without prompts.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously stumbled over reading tasks managed to read an entire short paragraph aloud and explain its meaning without assistance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Customs House Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Fort Street Public School.
