Understanding the Student’s Needs: Every student is unique, with their own strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. A good tutor takes the time to understand these aspects and tailors their teaching approach accordingly. Creating a Safe Learning Environment: Students should feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and expressing…

I think the most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to teach the subject in their level of understanding and teach them the fundamentals. Sometimes it can be a challenge to explain some advanced theories especially to young minds but if we teach them to master the basics, then it would be easier for them to grasp future…

Be there for the student. Although a chemistry tutor is employed to help the student with their work, a lot of times, students go through their own personal stuff, so its very important to not push them past their limits, and continually support them however they might need. I am easy to communicate with and also know how to break down a question…

I stand by the rules of “Push the strength, fix the weaknessâ€. The tutor should always be able to cater the lessons and learning materials according to the needs of the student. Subsequently, these lessons should also be well thought-out and be executed as planned. By this way, it minimises errors and allows room for improvement with the…

The most important things a chemistry tutor can do is to be flexible, creative and listen carefully to the students. It is also important that the tutor can help the student improve their overall study skills and techniques, which can help them transfer those skills to other subjects. It is also useful if a tutor can help students understand that…

The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to evoke the joy for the subject in the student. The student should enjoy doing the subject. which in turn leads to them studying the subject more and doing well. My strength as a tutor is that I enjoy the subjects I teach. I want the students to feel the same amount of enjoyment…

For a chemistry tutor to be an eloquent individual immersed with a wealth of knowledge it useless, if they do not frequently follow up with their students. It needs "regular maintenance" in car analogy. Tutoring is a marathon not a sprint. Tutors must hope to retain the students’ knowledge rather than sophisticatedly teach content without…

I personally consider the interactive and "adaptive" aspects of being a chemistry tutor to be the most important things a tutor can do for their student. In my opinion, keeping the student engaged, such as through mini breaks or games between long sessions of work, is the most effective way of teaching them in a fun, yet informative manner.…

Most people's perception of the job of a chemistry tutor is always to guide a student to be successful in the study/subject. Although that is an important role as a tutor, I find the most important aspect a tutor can do for a student is to further ignite their passion and interest in their subject. No matter how much a tutor can help, but if a…

A tutor should be able to understand how they can help a student and should teach content or provide help in a way that suits their student's learning style. This would ensure that students are able to learn easier and with less stress. Students should not just be taught what to learn but also how to learn depending on the topic learnt, since it…

The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do is to empower a student in their capabilities. To remind them that they are extremely smart and capable. This encourages them to try their best. They should also build the student's confidence and critical thinking abilities, encouraging independence. Lastly, teaching effective study skills and offering constructive feedback helps foster long-term success. My…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are build confidence, teach how to learn instead of just what to learn, and identify foundational knowledge gaps before they become crises. The msot influential tutors that I have had have all been there for me beyond just amademically, but also as older people I can look to for advice on various things, and that is what I think a tutor needs to have as this also aids the teaching process because students are more likely to be involved if they enjoy the classes and have that…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is create a safe, supportive learning environment that builds a student’s self-belief. Whether I'm helping a student prepare…

Inside BeaconsfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Stella focused on solving simultaneous equations using both elimination and substitution methods, as well as reviewing measurement questions involving parabolas.

For Year 10, Maddie worked through integer operations in Chapter 1A and practised applying rules for adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Alex completed a diagnostic assessment covering decimals, integers (both positive and negative), fractions, BODMAS (order of operations), and basic area and volume calculations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, he skipped showing steps in equations, which hid sign errors—this made it tough to spot where logic went off track and slowed correction.

A Year 11 student leaned heavily on mental calculations for polynomial division but left little written working; this caused confusion when revisiting the problem or checking for mistakes.

In Year 6, messy long division layout led to redoing several lines after mixing up remainders.

Another senior student avoided reviewing feedback on a completed application problem, so similar setup errors kept recurring during practice. Frustration set in as solutions seemed just out of reach.

Recent Achievements

One Beaconsfield tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to rely on a "shortcut" for simultaneous equations now confidently uses both elimination and substitution methods, even checking answers independently instead of waiting for guidance.

In Year 8 maths, a student who once hesitated with fraction calculations now solves multiplication and division of fractions accurately and even simplifies before working out answers—a big shift from earlier confusion.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student recently started trying questions without giving up at the first hurdle; last week he finished an entire set of perimeter problems after initially struggling to understand the questions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bunjil Place Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Haileybury College - Berwick Boys.
