Be there for the student. Although a tutor is employed to help the student with their work, a lot of times, students go through their own personal stuff, so its very important to not push them past their limits, and continually support them however they might need. I am easy to communicate with and also know how to break down a question to the…

For a tutor to be an eloquent individual immersed with a wealth of knowledge it useless, if they do not frequently follow up with their students. It needs "regular maintenance" in car analogy. Tutoring is a marathon not a sprint. Tutors must hope to retain the students’ knowledge rather than sophisticatedly teach content without regular revision…

Most people's perception of the job of a tutor is always to guide a student to be successful in the study/subject. Although that is an important role as a tutor, I find the most important aspect a tutor can do for a student is to further ignite their passion and interest in their subject. No matter how much a tutor can help, but if a student does…

The most obvious benefit a tutor can provide a kid is academic support, which is also the main reason parents send their children for tutoring. Moreover, tutoring is a process based on interpersonal interactions, human connection, and getting to know students as individuals and learners. Tutor straddles the line between teacher and friend, and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to evoke the joy for the subject in the student. The student should enjoy doing the subject. which in turn leads to them studying the subject more and doing well. My strength as a tutor is that I enjoy the subjects I teach. I want the students to feel the same amount of enjoyment that I…

I stand by the rules of “Push the strength, fix the weaknessâ€. The tutor should always be able to cater the lessons and learning materials according to the needs of the student. Subsequently, these lessons should also be well thought-out and be executed as planned. By this way, it minimises errors and allows room for improvement with the…

I personally consider the interactive and "adaptive" aspects of being a tutor to be the most important things a tutor can do for their student. In my opinion, keeping the student engaged, such as through mini breaks or games between long sessions of work, is the most effective way of teaching them in a fun, yet informative manner. Moreover, being…

It is important to help students to organize studies by preparing a timetable. Tutors should create awareness in students that why they are learning particular subject and importance of that subject so that they can concentrate better. I feel I can make students feel very comfortable with the subjects and encourage them to go beyond. I use the…

A tutor should be able to understand how they can help a student and should teach content or provide help in a way that suits their student's learning style. This would ensure that students are able to learn easier and with less stress. Students should not just be taught what to learn but also how to learn depending on the topic learnt, since it…

Inside Beaconsfield UpperTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aiden practised multiplication and division with tens, as well as tackling worded problems using the BIDMAS order of operations.

For Year 9, Sarah worked on simplifying fractions and multiplying them, using step-by-step examples for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mia focused on binomial probability and calculating confidence intervals, including margin of error, while completing SAC practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Physics, a student struggled with exam timing—"finishing the paper is the most important," one tutor noted, after sections on vector combinations and graphing were left incomplete.

Over-reliance on calculators in senior maths also meant basic skills weren't consolidated, slowing progress in composite function questions.

In Year 8 English, inattentiveness led to writing that lacked detail and was difficult to read; frequent distraction resulted in rushed creative tasks and minimal self-editing.

A primary student avoided working out multiplication without checking previously answered tables, so confidence and fluency with times tables lagged behind classmates during timed activities.

Recent Achievements

A Beaconsfield Upper tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through physics problems is now slowing down, double-checking his work, and making far fewer calculation errors.

Another high schooler in Year 12, who once hesitated with binomial distribution and probability questions, now independently applies the right equations to solve even the trickier exam tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student has started reading aloud with more fluency and takes pride in spotting and correcting sentence mistakes—whereas before, she rarely volunteered to read or self-correct. Last session, she finished her spelling homework without reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Emerald Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beaconsfield Upper Primary School.
