The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to teach the student how to think critically and laterally about the problems they face. My strengths as a tutor are definitely that while I don't push the students too hard I also don't just give them the answers. I give them the tools they need to work out the answers and…

I think a tutor should provide a fun, engaging and different approach to studying. A tutor should ask questions in a way a teacher hasn't got the time to do. They should always ask what the student wants and implement strategies as to how to attain these goals. But, perhaps at the forefront of responsibility, a tutor should always make sure the…

A tutor can be the confidence of the subject for a student. The attitude of the tutor reflects the interest of the students to focus on their lessons. A tutor must provide a friendly environment to students so that they are calm and composed while doing their lessons I am very patient and can explain the same things on a repetitive basis. Very…

I believe that building trust and a strong line of communication between a student and their tutor is important. Tutors should strive to encourage, motivate, and support their students. Having grown up with a sibling with a learning disability, I have strongly developed patience, active listening skills, and the ability to read body language and…

I believe that tutoring is more than just helping the students improve at a subject, but also to help boost their own confidence in any specific area. A tutor can act as a strong support system allowing for growth and improvement of the students in all aspects of their education. I’m very patient which has helped me in the past when working…

Even though it sounds basic, I truly think that patience is the key. When you are respectful of the differences in how people learn it can allow the student to feel more comfortable and willing to engage. Taking time to work through things and giving positive and constructive feedback is crucial. I believe that I am able to find other methods and…

I will also come with tools to keep track of my student's progress to have an idea of what level my student is at and tailor my lessons towards their needs and goals. I also like to give my students a…

Be patient. Tutors cannot expect students to understand or get the question right the first time. It is important for tutors to understand where the student went wrong and to slowly and easily correct them by following the question. Once they grasped an understanding, tutors should give the student similar questions to practice so they are…

I feel a good tutor would be there for the student at all times whether its regarding the subject or any other hardships they may be facing as a student. Make them believe in themselves is the first thing that pops into my mind. To get a student who once thought a subject was boring or complicated into something at least "okay" in which they can see their potential in if they put in the work. To not only allow the student to achieve the correct answers in a test and an overall higher grade, but to also generate a solid foundation of understanding and appreciation for the content they are learning and its applications. Inside BellambiTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student 52992 reviewed algebra, trigonometry, and inequalities as part of half-yearly test preparation, also covering significant figures and financial maths calculations.

For Year 10, student 55937 worked on coordinate geometry with a focus on finding perimeters of sectors, plus practiced forming and graphing linear equations.

Meanwhile, in Year 4, student 43575 explored picture graphs (interpreting simple data displays) and began to discuss foundational algebra concepts through informal activities.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly avoided showing working in maths tasks, insisting that "the answer is enough," which meant calculation errors went unnoticed during revision for algebra inequalities.

In a senior assignment on the Otzi Iceman (History), the same student required step-by-step guidance to begin research and drafting, as one tutor observed, "I had to 'hold his hand' through the writing portion."

For a Year 5 learner, difficulty recalling times tables out of order slowed progress with fraction questions—writing them sequentially was fine, but random recall proved challenging and led to hesitation when new problems appeared.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bellambi recently noticed Max tackling his Otzi history assignment with far more persistence than before—he used to give up quickly but now powers through challenging research and essay planning without needing reminders.

Another older student showed real progress in maths, mastering Pythagoras' theorem and like terms after struggling to connect the concepts earlier this term; he even asked for tougher questions on angles.

Meanwhile, Arvon (primary) has shifted from hesitating over addition to solving double-digit sums in his head, completing a set of ten mental calculations correctly during one session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Corrimal District Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit College.
