I think the most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is helping the student believe in themselves and letting them know they can do well. This is because most of the time students self doubts leads to them struggling with content not a lack of ability. I create strategies to help my students remember content easier and I make…

I think the most important things an economics tutor can do are build a student’s confidence, encourage independent thinking, and create a positive learning environment. A tutor shouldn’t just give answers but should guide students through the thinking process so they can solve problems on their own. One of my main strength is patience. I…

Mostly, I think it's important to be consistent in class attendance to make max use out of the limited time period. I also think that always believing in the student makes a huge difference, especially in maths. They need to know that someone sees their capability apart from them. Adding patience to this and allowing them a safe space to make…

I think the most important thing for a student is being able to connect with them on their wavelength, engaging their interest and focusing on their capabilities as a person rather than using a "one size fits all" approach. I am very passionate and empathetic which helps students who are otherwise struggling. I am also hardworking and have a…

As an economics tutor, I encourage my students to truly understand the course material, rather than aimlessly memorize the content. To do this it is important to be supportive, but firm. For me, the most important aspect of tutoring is being able to breakdown a concept which the student finds challenging into its key components and then explain them in a way which really resonates with a student. By doing this not only are you helping the student to understand the topic, you are enabling to student to apply the idea or concept to…

Beyond simply helping a student improve their grades, I believe an economics tutor should aim to further engage their students in their learning and to actively enjoy school. It's one thing to explain to a student how to approach concepts and assessment tasks, but to actively encourage them to love school is something that separates a good tutor…

The most important thing for an economics tutor to do is to know what not to do.Never should a tutor discourage any participation or disapprove of the theories initiated by the student. The most important thing a tutor can do is NOT to give the students answers. This is a red line for me as it limits the student's ability to use their mind to explore and thus tackle hard questions. My strengths are that I am open minded and persistent; I am never one to criticise a student for not understanding how to do something no matter how…

A good tutor should always focus on qualitative approach rather than quantitative…

Inside BellfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ethan worked on converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and representing fractions on a number line, using diagrams for visual understanding.

Year 8 student Olivia focused on indices—practising both positive and negative indices—and revisited measurement concepts including perimeter of circles.

For Year 10, Jacob tackled linear equations and trigonometry basics such as identifying sine, cosine, and tangent ratios in right-angled triangles.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly guessed answers in maths rather than working them out on paper, with one tutor noting, "He got up several times to play basketball during class."

In Year 10, forgetting to bring textbooks and materials made it difficult to review past challenges—"She needed to bring her maths books so I could see what she had struggled with this week."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student ran out of time on an exam, missing simple errors due to poor planning. These habits led to lost marks and missed opportunities for targeted feedback in each session.

Recent Achievements

A Bellfield tutor noticed Ollie, a Year 10 student, recently made fewer mistakes on area and perimeter problems by slowing down and using the standard formula they created together—he used to rush through and miss key steps.

In another session, Kiera (Year 11) moved from relying on hints to working through challenging English essay planning almost entirely independently, making her own quote lists for the first time.

Meanwhile, Felix in primary school finally started applying punctuation correctly in his writing without reminders after weeks of forgetting full stops.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Pius X School.
