In my opinion, the most important things a tutor can do for a student is foster understanding, confidence, and a positive learning environment. I aim to encourage and motivate students, helping them believe in their abilities. I also believe that it is important to pay attention to the student's questions and concerns. I can explain concepts in…

I think the best tutors teach at a speed that the student requires. If a tutor is impatient, not only does it reduce what the student learns but also discourages them from asking for help. Tutors need to accommodate each specific student, as each one is different. I have been studying for a Bachelor of Law/Arts for the past four years. This study…

I want to cater to that student's needs. I think it is extremely important to ask what the students' goals are. You need to know the direction they want to go in order to meet their needs. Then take their goal and break it down into achievable pieces that they can accomplish. Lot of students get overwhelmed in math and my goal is to make them…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to inspire passion; a person who is sincerely interested in a subject and has a drive to continue delving into it will naturally go much further and achieve much higher then an unmotivated genius no matter the intellect as they will enjoy the entire journey of learning and not just focus on the results. I…

Obviously bumping up grades. But before that comes there is the massive component where the tutor is able to let the student feel like they actually know what they're doing. Instilling confidence in someone and helping them to not feel dumb can change the way they approach learning and improve everything about their academic life. Coming from…

Truly the most important thing any tutor can do for a student is to help create and cultivate a growth mindset. By doing this, students become lifelong, innovative learners. This certainly occurs in the classroom, but teachers are expected to do this to upwards of 20+ children. Tutors are important to students because they assist in expanding…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for the student is to be flexible in their teaching methods and approaches to learning/teaching content as there are so many different learning styles out there and they are there with us because they may be having trouble with the teaching methods used at school. In those cases in particular, it's…

It is most important to make the student enjoy the lesson in a way that they would not think of it as obligatory but rather make the students truly want to learn. Also, a tutor should acknowledge the students hard work and struggles, not only their high results. I am very patient since all children have different speeds when it comes to learning.…

I believe the most important things a tutor can provide are motivation and discipline. I might not be the smartest tutor, but I’m there to accompany my students, help them trust themselves, remind them of their goals, and keep them disciplined in their studies whenever they feel lost. Some of the strengths that I believe are quite necessary for a tutor other than leadership are resilience, and the ability to properly analyse a students learning…

To instil confidence in themselves as it can take them a long way in terms of motivation and improving their learning by being positive and motivating. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to develop their problem solving skills. I think that I am very good at meeting the…

First of all, communication is definitely vital in order to engage with tutees. Before any information exchange can take place, both parties should be able to relay their thoughts and express their opinions as clear as possible to avoid misconceptions. A tutor can drastically improve a student's confidence in a subject and in their own ability. Inside BenowaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Alex revised clock terminology and the 24-hour clock, then practised converting between fractions, percentages, and indices using test examples.

For Year 10, Chloe focused on factorising and expanding binomials as well as solving algebraic equations step-by-step.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ethan worked through redox reactions in Chemistry and tackled logarithms, applying theory to practice questions for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Science, one student hesitated to attempt questions independently before sessions—"doesn't want to try the question before with me as doesn't want to do it wrong"—which led to slower progress on assignments and built up anxiety around mistakes.

A Year 11 student in Maths repeatedly wrote down the wrong formula when tackling trigonometry problems; confusion persisted during revision, making it harder to correct errors efficiently.

In Year 8 English, untidy handwriting and incomplete assignment drafts meant feedback was hard to act on.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student lost focus at session starts, needing extra reminders just to organize materials and begin work.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Benowa recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through algebra is now carefully showing all working and checking steps before moving on.

In a senior chemistry session, another high schooler who previously mixed up equations surprised his tutor by recalling the right formulas for titration problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who was hesitant to speak up started rephrasing maths concepts herself and answering questions aloud during her Benowa tutoring lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mobile Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Benowa State High School.
