The most important things a tutor can do is to make his/her students think. Not making them mugg up the whole syllabus but to understand the things and study by able to make them connect with real life examples. Make them practice the things that they have learned. Only practice can make a person perfect in anything. I am able to think the way…

A good tutor should be able to provide perspective. A good tutor should also be able to listen and understand the student so that the most effective learning approach can take place. A tutor should be adaptable. Patience; as the youngest member in my family I've had to learn to be patient, about everything, even the simple task of waiting to use…

The most importnat thing a tutor needs to do is to guide the students along the right part to revise the things that they have learnt on each particular day and make sure that they actually understand what is going on. Moreover, encouragement and support is also required all along the process of tutoring. My Strength would be that I am…

Tutors can offer a lot to a student that needs help and is finding their studies difficult. One of the things is another perspective of teaching the content to the student, different from the way the classroom teacher has taught them. By doing this if they do not understand in that perspective, it helps by giving them an alternative…

Making things simpler for the student to understand is the best thing all students want from a tutor. Giving them simpler methods to do questions and encouraging them to be better are very crucial. I have been tutoring students, who couldn't afford to take private tuitions, for almost one year. I was helping them in subjects like science,…

Great understanding and knowledge of the subject is possibly the best thing a tutor can offer. Making them able to do their current assignment is just not ideal, they should then also be able to understand the core knowledge of the questions, so that when similar questions arrived they would be able to do it themselves, or even better, they might…

Tutor-student connection. If the pair don't maintain an almost friends connection it is hard to influence the students learning for the better. A good tutor encourages critical thinking, builds problem-solving skills, and helps students develop the confidence to work through challenges on their own. To foster a good tutor-student relationship first. Having this as the first form of connection will help know the students character and personality (and vice versa) which then will help the tutor know the best way to teach. I believe this relationship is necessary for effective teaching. I learnt most and learnt best from the lecturers with whom…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be someone there to listen to them, someone there to guide them through their academic problems (not just the academics but the mindset as well) and someone who they feel is having a positive impact on their learning experience. The most essential part of tutoring is being able to explain the principles behind each concept so that it is fully understood by the student. Once the student has full understanding of a concept, and how it links to other ideas not necessarily within the defined limits of the course, they will be able to remember better and explain the necessary…

I think tutor should do everything for his or her students because after the parents only teacher is one person who can very closed for the student. In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to break a concept down to its simplest form. In my school days, I often found this to be the easiest way to learn. If your basic foundation of any concept is strong, it gets much easier to build on that and learn more complex information pertaining to it. Moreover, being…

A tutor has an important role in the life of the student and many things that a student learns from the tutor sets a standard for how the student will relate with his/her studies. A tutor’s main job is to teach the student about how to apply his/her learnings in real life, and by doing this the student will develop skills for real life problems.…

Inside BentleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ali worked on finding gradients of lines using both the rise over run method and co-ordinates, as well as solving linear inequalities and exploring parallel and perpendicular gradients.

For Year 10, Sara focused on chemical equations by practising ionic formulas, hydrated compounds, and empirical formula calculations, reinforcing her understanding through worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Nia tackled decimals and fractions in geometry questions, using diagrams to help compare values and solve problems involving shapes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on chemical equations had not completed the assigned homework, leading to repeated minor errors in writing formulas—"the student still shows some minor mistakes in writing chemical formulas," noted one tutor.

In Year 8 maths, another student's written work on rearranging equations was messy and lacked clear labelling, making it harder to spot calculation errors before moving on.

A Year 4 learner avoided practicing weekly spelling words, so the same mistakes resurfaced during class dictation.

One Year 7 student faced ongoing challenges converting word problems into diagrams, losing focus mid-task and requiring multiple reminders to return attention to problem-solving.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bentley noticed one Year 11 student who used to hesitate with balancing ionic equations now talks through each step aloud and manages most problems independently.

Another high schooler, previously unsure about forming linear equations, has started solving for 'c' and graphing inequalities without prompting—she even asked for extra questions last session.

In a Year 4 session, a student who would get distracted during math tasks stayed focused throughout and answered all mental calculation questions quickly, showing much more patience than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cannington Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Santa Clara School.
