Making things simpler for the student to understand is the best thing all students want from a tutor. Giving them simpler methods to do questions and encouraging them to be better are very crucial. I have been tutoring students, who couldn't afford to take private tuitions, for almost one year. I was helping them in subjects like science,…

Great understanding and knowledge of the subject is possibly the best thing a tutor can offer. Making them able to do their current assignment is just not ideal, they should then also be able to understand the core knowledge of the questions, so that when similar questions arrived they would be able to do it themselves, or even better, they might…

Time, services, and understanding. every student has a different time understanding a concept so no need to rush and not too slow. Good services would support tutorials, especially on how to use the teaching methods and so on. Before all those, knowing the situation of my students is an essential part to make a plan on how to prepare the teaching…

To foster a good tutor-student relationship first. Every student can excel when provided with the correct guidance. The most important things a tutor should do are, first and foremost, to understand the student's perspective, that is, to assess the student's shortcomings and their underlying causes. Then, use the student's strengths to his advantage. A tutor must help the student develop a love…

Most importantly, listen! A lot of students don't know where they are struggling but give it away with the questions they ask or the steps they take to try and solve problems. Have more than one method or way of explaining things. People have different learning styles and different past experience to attach new things onto. Being organised,…

Inside BentleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ali worked on finding gradients of lines using both the rise over run method and co-ordinates, as well as solving linear inequalities and exploring parallel and perpendicular gradients.

For Year 10, Sara focused on chemical equations by practising ionic formulas, hydrated compounds, and empirical formula calculations, reinforcing her understanding through worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Nia tackled decimals and fractions in geometry questions, using diagrams to help compare values and solve problems involving shapes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on chemical equations had not completed the assigned homework, leading to repeated minor errors in writing formulas—"the student still shows some minor mistakes in writing chemical formulas," noted one tutor.

In Year 8 maths, another student's written work on rearranging equations was messy and lacked clear labelling, making it harder to spot calculation errors before moving on.

A Year 4 learner avoided practicing weekly spelling words, so the same mistakes resurfaced during class dictation.

One Year 7 student faced ongoing challenges converting word problems into diagrams, losing focus mid-task and requiring multiple reminders to return attention to problem-solving.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bentley noticed one Year 11 student who used to hesitate with balancing ionic equations now talks through each step aloud and manages most problems independently.

Another high schooler, previously unsure about forming linear equations, has started solving for 'c' and graphing inequalities without prompting—she even asked for extra questions last session.

In a Year 4 session, a student who would get distracted during math tasks stayed focused throughout and answered all mental calculation questions quickly, showing much more patience than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cannington Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Santa Clara School.
