I believe the most important thing here would be to ensure the student understands what is being taught and is able to move forward in their learning. Tutors as facilitators must be able to give them the confidence that they are improving and can do even better with persistent practice and revision. I think one of my greatest strengths is being…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them want to study a topic, to present a topic in a certain way that makes the student more enthusiastic to learn. Although understanding a subject is extremely important, I believe the students' willingness to learn is equally important as trying to teach a student to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence alongside their understanding. It’s not just about getting the right answer; it's about helping them believe they can get there themselves. Creating a supportive, non-judgmental space is really important, as is adaptability and attention to each student's needs. A…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help a student truly understand concepts rather than just memorising them, by explaining ideas clearly and in a way that suits the student's learning style. At the same time, a tutor should build the student's confidence. My main strength as a tutor is being able to explain complex ideas in a simple,…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is truly understand the person’s problems, challenges, and learning gaps. Everyone learns differently, and effective tutoring begins with listening carefully and identifying where they are genuinely struggling. A tutor should pause and address difficulties properly rather than rushing to simply…

The learnings given by a tutor needs to be tailored as per the student.. Every individual is different, has different interests, has different caliber. We need to understand their potential, unlock it and provide our boost to it. I am a very patient person and understand that i may need to repeat my explanations as needed. Sometimes I might need…

To reassure them that having a tutor and needing a bit of extra help is nothing to be ashamed of. Moreover than learning the tasks, helping them feel they're capable of more than they think they are. It is very important as a tutor to understand your student. Be his silent friend and connect with him. Read his mental abilities, his interest, observe his qualities and disabilities, his way of learning things. And then try to impart the teaching depending on all these factors. Each student is different and so is the method of teaching. Teaching…

I think tutors need to make/ help students feel comfortable and less stressful with their studies in school. Talking to the students and identify their strengths and weaknesses, and hence support them to improve and reach their fullest potential. I always try to adapt my teaching to the students. I never want to be fixed with one way of teaching…

I feel the strengths as a tutor are to help my students to set a high expectation, which motivates them to work towards that. Another strength would be to be honest and transparent with students about how to succeed. And as a tutor, it is our duty to make sure that students know you believe in them and want them to succeed. I'm a team player. I…

Always know what students need and what's their priority. This means a tutor need to show respect to students. A tutor can provide little tips and tricks to answering questions, especially in Math. Always be within reach, in terms of communication platforms, so that the student can clarify any doubts at any point in time. A tutor should also be flexible to the timings of the students yet not compromising on other students schedule. I am patient, clear…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to open a rapport that makes them feel safe and understood, an environment where they are not afraid to try and even not afraid to fail, in the knowledge that with help and direction they can try again and do better. With the acceptance that 1 style (or even 10 styles!) of teaching…

In my opinion, I think that it is important to understand every student is different and has their way of learning. It is important for a tutor to identify and tailor a plan for each student so that they are learning efficiently. For example, as I am a visual and auditory learner, I learn most efficiently by watching lectures and videos and less…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to inspire his inner confidence and nurture his talent. Nurturing young minds and sowing seeds that will engender innovation is the ultimate role of a tutor. In this…

Students need to realize that learning is not only limited in the classroom. Lecturing and tutoring not only help the students to understand the knowledge and achieve the academic purpose, but also guide them to construct the way of thinking. As a tutor, it is very important that the teacher becomes an inspiration to the student. Inside Beulah ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Milly revised converting **fractions to decimals and percentages**, then practised order of operations and division questions.

Year 8 student Areeba focused on **multiplying decimals by whole numbers using the grid method**, as well as reviewing decimal multiplication by 10, 100, and 1000.

For Year 9, Shehroz worked on **classifying angles**—including right, obtuse, and acute—and started long division with two-digit dividends and one-digit divisors.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 English student's presentation became "chaotic and disjointed" when ideas were listed out of order, making it hard for the audience to follow.

In Year 9, sentence structure issues meant written work sometimes lacked clarity, with one tutor noting that "paragraph flow was lost."

For a Year 7 maths task, forgetting to show working during order of operations questions led to hidden calculation errors and confusion between acute and reflex angles.

In primary years, some students struggled with times tables but hesitated to practice more challenging combinations, which slowed progress on multi-step arithmetic.

Recent Achievements

One Beulah Park tutoring session saw a Year 10 student, Harrison, who previously struggled to recall trigonometric ratios, start identifying opposite and adjacent triangle sides more independently—he now shows his working out without prompting.

A Year 8 student, Milly, has begun correcting her own mistakes when comparing integers and only occasionally needs the number line for support, a shift from earlier sessions where she needed step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, in primary years, Pranavi realised on her own why adding denominators was wrong with fractions and then solved mixed number problems without any hints or reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Norwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mary MacKillop College.
