The most important thing to do for any student is to be understanding and to listen to anything and everything they have to say. Every single student is different and their approach to certain things are always different so its always important to recognise this and adapt to cater for them. As a tutor with nearly 3 years of experience, I have the…

It is extremely important that when the student is faced with a difficult question, they are able to see many potential methods to attempt it. As such I consider the most important thing that a tutor can do it expand the understanding of their student so much so that they can see these multiple methods by themselves and adapt their thinking to the…

In my view, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop a deep understanding of the subject matter. This means going beyond simply helping them complete assignments and prepare for exams, and instead working with them to build a foundation of knowledge and skills that they can apply to future challenges. A good…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to be open and offer an open exchange of exchange of information that allows a student to freely delve into a subject. I feel tutors better excel at this compared to teachers who's depth and exploration of a topic can be shallow due to the rigorous nature of the syllabus. My strengths would be gentle…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be a positive role model, and be someone to look up to, someone who can be relied upon for any academic issue. I think the biggest problem is that students are afraid of being judged or scared of what tutors might think of them, and I believe that establishing that open honest…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a safe and supportive space where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Support. Providing a great amount of support and motivation is crucial for a student’s education path. Without this, a lack of drive would occur which is detrimental to their learning, ultimately affecting their peers around them which acts like the domino effect. I think that a very important aspect of tutoring is the individual attention that it provides the student with, which would not always be possible in a school setting. As tutors work closely with the student, they are also aware of the student's thinking style and capacities, and can therefore tailor their own teaching style. Furthermore, most…

Inside BidwillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sofia focused on solving inequalities and understanding gradients in linear equations, using practice problems to reinforce each step.

For Year 11, Omar reviewed non-linear equations for an upcoming exam by tackling challenging worksheet questions, then shifted to English to develop ideas for a discursive essay based on scenes from "Pleasantville."

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Saanvi practiced double-digit addition and subtraction and was tested on her 9 and 12 times tables, with extra reading from "Danny's Dollars" to support comprehension skills.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students struggled with organization and written clarity.

In Year 9 algebra, one student's layout was flagged: "needs to show working out," making it difficult to spot errors when expanding and simplifying expressions.

A Year 11 student preparing for trigonometry with obtuse angles often avoided revisiting past mistakes—this meant minor errors persisted through revision, especially in exam settings.

At the primary level, a Year 3 student faced confusion adding numbers to zero; as noted, "the lack of understanding makes it difficult to add numbers to 0."

The impact is visible: lost marks and time spent retracing steps instead of building new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Bidwill tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to guess quietly during algebra sessions now pausing to ask clarifying questions when stuck—something he never did before.

In senior maths, another high schooler who'd previously needed constant hints with network concepts recently completed an entire assignment independently without outside help.

For a younger student, reading fluency took a leap: she not only read "The Hungry Caterpillar" aloud but started sounding out unfamiliar words herself, rather than waiting for prompts from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Druitt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bidwill Public School.
