Everything starts with guidance. Words are so powerful. So the main duty for a tutor is to give the key points to the student and make the student love the subject. So if you give the right guidance to the student they will be more courageous in the following courses. Because i was a honours student both in high school and university, i believe…

I think the most important thing that the tutor can do is to understand the student's mental and emotional state and to be flexible around it. The student will be more willing to learn if the tutor adjusts to them accordingly. I can make learning easier with a fun and light environment. I can also make the student give their full attention on the…

i think the best thing a tutor can do in order to properly teach a student is for the tutor to try and put their level of thinking at the same level as the student in order to communicate effective information that is more likely to be retained by the student. i think my biggest strength is adapting to each students needs and way of learning. i…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to believe in them and show encouragement. Self-esteem can be extremely vulnerable during schooling years, and tutors have the power to enhance their students' level of self-confidence and sense of self-efficacy. The most important thing I think a tutor can do for a student is to help teach them in a safe, non-judgemental and trust worthy environment. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their understanding, which allows them to be better learners overall. This is done through understanding how they learn things best, whether through diagrams, metaphors, or a direct example of the concept to start. This allows them to build…

Inside BlakehurstTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Blake worked on understanding circumference, radius, and diameter of circles as well as converting between units of measurement.

In Year 8, Sam tackled algebra by expanding and simplifying equations before starting to plot points and solve linear equations using step-by-step methods.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Alex reviewed trigonometry concepts in preparation for an upcoming test and clarified key statistical terminology during the lesson.

Recent Challenges

Solving questions passively led a Year 8 student to frequent calculation errors in long division, especially when several steps were involved.

In a recent Year 10 session, one learner hesitated to write out their working in algebra because of nerves about making mistakes. This slowed progress and made it hard to spot where they went wrong.

A younger student (Year 5) often left homework incomplete and sometimes mixed up key vocabulary like 'radius' and 'diameter,' which then affected their confidence tackling new geometry problems. These habits led to missed connections and slower improvement between sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Blakehurst tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with exam-style algebra questions now tackling the trickier ones independently and even working through mistakes without frustration.

A Year 9 session saw a student who'd previously mixed up angle types not only recalling geometric terms but using a protractor correctly for the first time.

In primary, a Year 4 learner has started finishing homework before lessons—something she hadn't done until last month—and solved two-digit multiplication using the "smile" method all on her own during their latest session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Hurstville—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mater Dei Catholic Primary School.
