The most important thing a teacher can do for a student is to be understanding and friendly to them so that they don't hesitate to share their problems. focusing more on the topics they find difficult to understand and being there for them for as long as they need is the best thing a tutor can do. A tutor can offer student great flexibility in teaching materials and methods that may not be available in a classroom setting. Going through the student's difficulties one by one, with personal attention, makes a significant difference to a learning environment. I am very organized and I understand how difficult it can be to learn different…

The most important thing is to make a friendly and positive environment in which students can learn and express their individuality. in this enevrirnmtn there should respect between tutors and students that provides a safe place to learn. I believe that the most important things a tutor can do for a student are helping them understand confusing concepts, and guiding them towards effective study habits. This ensures that students develop the skills required to tackle examination papers independently with confidence. I believe my strengths as a tutor are my communication skills,…

Not only teaching a subject, but making they more confident and independent. For me, the best teachers/tutors that I had were those that showed me the importance of having a "problem solving" mentality, instead of simply learning how to get some questions right. I am very experienced and I have dealt with many students, that had different…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to create trust with their students where the student can practice and learn comfortably no matter what their level is, and for the tutor to serve as a sort of life mentor on the side. I think my strengths are my patience and ability to be adaptable to a student's academic level and personal…

I believe that it is paramount for a tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each student…

There are a few but I think the point of a tutor is for reinforcement. There is no way that a tutor will be able to pump out as much content as a student will be able to consume from traditional school, however with the 1 on 1 nature of tuition, tutors can take topics a lot further than a teacher would for an entire class. Not only this, a tutor…

I think self-taught is the most important thing that a tutor can teach a student. This is because self-taught can go with them anywhere but the tutor can not. Additionally, a tutor can not teach a student everything, so at some points, the student needs to explore themselves. I am patient and independent in studying. This is because I have been…

I believe that encouragement and support is crucial to tutoring. A tutor must be able to reassure students when they feel stuck, or discouraged about a certain subject. I'm very personable. One of the most vital things a tutor should do is ensure that he is understood teaching-wise and that he understands his pupils perfectly. One thing that some teachers don't have is empathy for the unique condition of a student. A student's ability to learn can be affected in various ways, like by his surroundings and so on. It is significantly…

Michael has made a huge difference already, and we are very happy with his work so far. Mia is listening to him and there is some great mutual respect happening. I love that when mia doesn't know something he ensures to not make her feel silly. It has helped her confidence Immensely.

Inside BraybrookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Chelsea focused on surds and the first five laws of indices, then practised Pythagoras' Theorem for both finding hypotenuse and shorter sides, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

For Year 9, Ruby tackled negative indices and exponential equations before moving into graphs of exponential growth and decay.

Meanwhile, primary student Ethan (Grade 5) completed NAPLAN numeracy practice, including dot plots and multi-step worded questions to build confidence with data displays and problem-solving.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, one student often avoided writing out working when solving linear equations, saying "I can do this in my head," which led to missed sign errors and confusion during revision.

In a senior class, a Year 11 found herself relying heavily on her calculator for trigonometry but struggled on non-calculator tests—she wasn't confident with manual division or recalling times tables.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner left homework incomplete after a busy week; gaps in fraction skills persisted into lessons. Each instance left the student frustrated, searching for answers that could have been clearer with stronger habits.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Braybrook noticed that Chelsea, a Year 10 student, has gone from struggling with surds to confidently simplifying them and now independently applies trigonometric ratios to complex worded problems—a big leap from earlier sessions where she hesitated with multi-step processes.

Sasha, also in high school, recently started sketching parabolas by completing the square without prompts and tackled all questions on her test, even when unsure—showing new initiative compared to her previous reluctance.

Meanwhile, Camilla in Year 5 has begun creating dot plots herself and now explains her answers out loud after previously staying quiet during problem-solving.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brimbank Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caroline Chisholm Catholic College.
