The most important thing a tutor can do for their students, is to be their friends. It helps providing the students an environment where they can enjoy what they are studying. It helps in eliminating rote learning, which kills the entire joy and purpose of learning and education. My great knowledge and interest in subjects like Math and Physics…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence and make learning feel approachable. When students feel supported and understood, they're far more likely to engage, ask questions, and take risks, which is where real growth happens! A great tutor doesn't just explain the content clearly; they also adapt to the…

As a tutor, I could assist students to understand their subjects by motivating them involving an interactive class with students. When I went to tutoring, I had the best experience by having a very motivated, interactive and interesting tutor. I will try to become one of them though I'm still yet to gain formal experience of tutoring In addition,…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create a safe and encouraging environment where a student feels comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence over time. I truly believe that is how you're able to learn. As my ex-manager used to say, "there's no such thing as a stupid question" and that really resonated…

A good tutor can boost the confidence of his/her student, can motivate the student to face problems by encouraging critical thinking. The tutor should encourage the student to speak out their mind and ask questions. I am a keen listener which I believe, enables me to understand what the student needs. For me, I believe that not only is it important for a tutor to impart academic knowledge upon the student in their lessons, but also to make sure to impart this knowledge in an engaging, creative way and check in, providing extra guidance and exercises as necessary so as much as possible they can truly understand and absorb the concepts. I also…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

A mentor or teacher can teach his/her students about reality and prepare them for various situation that they will face in future. Teacher can act as a friend, a motivator and a helping hand. A tutor should realize that once upon a time, they themselves were a student who must have struggled with certain subjects and also fared well in certain other subjects. True learning happens when students build the tools to think for themselves. A tutor needs to inspire the students in such a way that they know what their efforts will make them accomplish. A very few teachers are able to provide the contextual applications of what they teach the students. I believe it is paramount that a student know about WHY he is being taught something. Sparking interest in studies is not easy at times…

It is most important for a tutor to engage with the student, so that they will be more inclined to be attentive and take the lessons seriously. Inside Breakfast PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Imogen worked on converting between fractions and decimals, as well as identifying factors and multiples using number patterns.

For Year 8, Amber tackled expanding algebraic brackets and moved on to factorising expressions with practice problems.

In Year 11, Hannah reviewed the measurement of economic growth along with understanding the marginal propensity to consume/save and applying the simple multiplier formula through real-world examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Mathematics, Tyler often skipped setting out his working clearly, especially when expanding brackets or solving algebraic fractions. As one tutor noted, "he worked out answers in his head instead of writing steps," leading to confusion over operation signs and missed terms.

During exam revision, he sometimes neglected assigned homework, which meant foundational skills—like inequalities and rates—were not fully reinforced.

In senior Economics (Year 12), rushing through comprehension tasks led to overlooked errors and difficulty connecting ideas between texts. This left gaps during practice exams when questions required deeper analysis under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

In Year 8 maths, Tyler used to struggle with algebraic fractions but now solves them independently and even applies those skills when tackling new exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, a senior student working on Business Studies essays moved from mainly descriptive writing to more analytical responses after targeted feedback—now she edits her work to focus on argument rather than just content.

For English, Zarraf was once hesitant to share ideas aloud but now maintains eye contact and elaborates thoughtfully during discussions, especially when prompted by the text.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gladesville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Patrick's Catholic Primary School.
