The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Talking aloud consistently, which helps understand concepts more and more easily. Highly confident and always attempts to identify what parts of questions contain mistakes. Seeks understanding both in and out of class and no evidence of any lazy thinking . Notes are neat and easy to locate certain areas of work when required. Additionally better understanding is being gained on how concepts fit in with certain questions and what certain questions are asking.
While Jasmine is not able to show me her classwork (she keeps it at school) she has demonstrated a strong work ethic by completing all homework problems I set for her, sometimes going beyond the set questions. She has a very positive attitude and is always keen to learn and be challenged.
Bonnie does not appear to have any major gaps in understanding in mathematics, and usually only requires concepts to be broken down a little bit more simply so that she can 'explain them back to me' clearly and provide analogies to further show her understanding. When doing complex algebra and index laws Bonnie is very capable but needs to remember to break it into small simple steps rather than seeing the question as one big complex problem.
I was just writing to let you know that I got better than the grade I hoped for, so everything turned out great! I wanted to say thank-you for all of your help. I would not have been able to do this without you. Thanks so much.
After two months our son's marks in year 10 maths went from the fourties to the seventies. I think most tutors know their maths but our tutor is a wonderful communicator and talented educator whom we wish to retain through the HSC.
Since working with David she's improved out of sight and is now first in her year. She understands questions better & as a result her marks have improved in other subjects across the board.
