Firstly, I feel like connecting with a student is a big thing in tutoring as if you understand your student, you can better suit their style of learning and allow them to understand the topic easier. Secondly, being patient with a student is essential as you cannot become frustrated they don't understand otherwise they will not learn anything at…

It is vital that a tutor can assist in building their student's confidence. With believing that they have the necessary abilities, the student can achieve their goals. Furthermore, it is extremely important that a tutor can learn to understand how a student learns in order to be able to work with them in the most beneficial way. I believe that I…

Tutors can regurgitate the curriculum back to students exactly how most high school teachers do, however I don't think this is a great strategy. Tutors are given the opportunity to have 1 on 1 time with students, which has a much greater influence on the pupil. Tutors can use these sessions to accelerate their students learning, and ultimately…

Aside from teaching the content in an understandable and logical manner, I also think that a tutor should try to inspire a student to become a self-directed and motivated learner. Such a transformation creates the best performing students because they no longer overly rely on the tutelage of others. Rather, they learn to handle a variety of…

Many of my students are under in high stress situations, such as year 12 students trying to get a good enough result to get into university. They have a high workload. Inside BroadbeachTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Milly worked on understanding outliers and calculating mean, median, mode, and range using practical examples and visual explanation sheets.

Year 8 student Jamie focused on frequency tables—learning to construct them from scratch, including cumulative frequency, and practiced applying these skills in preparation for an assignment.

For a senior student in Year 10, Alex tackled substitution techniques in algebra, working through step-by-step examples and building a reference summary sheet to reinforce the process for future homework.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student tackling algebra and chapter reviews often struggled to organize what needed attention, leading to confusion about which topics required help; as one tutor noted, "she didn't know how to do the topics covered" until the review was broken down together.

In Year 11 Chemistry, a student repeatedly avoided memorizing key formulas and charges for cations/anions—hesitating on worksheets when balancing equations became more complex.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student skipped setting out working in maths quizzes, making it easy to mix up steps or lose marks on otherwise understood questions. This led to unnecessary stress during tests.

Recent Achievements

One Broadbeach tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 9 student who used to rush through maths problems and make mistakes; now, he slows down and shows all his working before moving on.

A Year 11 learner recently tackled factorising in algebra—she'd struggled with the steps last term but can now identify which process to use and works through questions independently.

In a recent Year 5 session, a student who found multiplication confusing at first was able to explain her reasoning out loud while splitting double-digit division into manageable pieces.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Broadbeach Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Broadbeach State School.
