A tutor's key role is to spark a love for learning. Beyond teaching subjects, they boost confidence, encourage critical thinking, and nurture motivation. Through personalised support, feedback, and a positive environment, tutors empower students to take charge of their learning, paving the way for lifelong academic success. I believe that my…

The best thing is to guide a student in a direction which is best according his or her capabilities. He/she should be motivated to follow the path in which he /she has upper hand or better grasping power. Tutoring is not just about teaching ......It decides the future of next generations. So a tutor acts as a blueprint for a student's carrer.…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence. It’s not just about improving grades, but helping them believe they’re capable. A good tutor should also create a safe space for questions, provide encouragement, and teach study skills that students can use independently in the future. I think my main…

I believe that ultimately, helping students to achieve better grades in school is the most important thing, because that's what tutors are hired for. That being said, I also believe that other things such as helping students to fix a poor study schedule and rectifying pessimistic/unconfident mindsets is also important towards not only their…

Tutor should be able to understand the students' mindset as well as the subject knowledge student has before starting the tutorial. Try to make things simple so that students can grasp easily. I find ways to explain things in a simple way for students to understand easily. I focus on the areas where students find it more difficult and try to make…

By my little experience, i think that tutoring is not only directing the children to a specific point but opening their mind to a broader level by keeping into mind the child's interests. Listening to the child, helping them to use their imagination freely and cope-up with difficult questions easily. Also, students can ask me questions freely if…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student to me would be being able to provide extra 1 on 1 time with a student that they might not be able to have in a school setting. By having 1 on 1 time with a student, it is easier to teach them and make them understand the content. Also being able to be contacted by the student outside school…

The most important things a tutor can do is to engage, motivate and inspire students to learn. Tutors have a great influence on a student's mind as well. 1. Understand the strong areas a student is in, let's say it's hard to teach the student mathematics/science when his/her passion is towards art. Understanding the key competencies of a student makes a good tutor, who can then channel them in the right direction to progressive and efficient results. 2. Practical learning, it's easier to teach…

When a student seeks for help of a tutor, it is important to figure it out where students get struggle or feel not confident. In addition, a tutor need to track up with students progress, exam schedule and use appropriate teaching approaches to improve students' academic achievement and self-esteem. I believe it’s important to empathise with students rather then being sympathetic. Sympathy comes with one feeling a sense of emotion for sometime. Whereas, when in comes to tutoring, we need to empathise with students as it’ll allow us to position ourselves in their circumstances. Therefore, will give as a vision of a reality closer to what a…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help the student develop interest for the subject. Once the student is throughly interested in the subject, he/she starts to explore on their own. I think that being able to listen to your student and understanding how they think is really important. Also when things are difficult for them to understand, I think that it's important to show support and not show signs of disapproval or anything negative because it can directly affect a student's willingness to learn. Being able to adapt to a…

Inside BrooklynTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Vincent reviewed mixed numbers, area and volume, percentages, ratios, and introductory algebra while also practising reading comprehension and grammar.

In Year 10, Daniel worked on graphing linear inequalities and representing them visually, alongside simplifying expressions in algebra.

For Year 11, Alyssa focused on completing the square for quadratics as well as exploring the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule in trigonometry using step-by-step problem sets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often arrived without their class notes or required materials, which made it hard to bridge knowledge gaps—significant gaps in their knowledge that will require further study.

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student missed several weeks due to injury and needed intensive test preparation; this left little time for developing independent revision habits.

For a Year 7 learner, skipping careful reading of worded maths problems meant solutions were sometimes off-target.

Meanwhile, a senior student working on trigonometry lacked confidence with unit circle values and hesitated to attempt questions without reference aids. This slowed progress during practice tests.

Recent Achievements

One Brooklyn tutor noted a Year 10 student who had previously relied on hints is now independently spotting and correcting their own algebra mistakes during sessions.

A recent high school chemistry lesson saw a student, who used to mix up empirical and molecular formulas, clearly explain the difference between them without prompting.

Meanwhile, in primary years, a Year 4 learner who would often guess answers now confidently asks for help when stuck—showing they're comfortable voicing what they don't understand.

Last session, that same student finished all ten questions without skipping any or giving up.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Yarraville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Annunciation School.
