The most important thing is to develop the students confidence and give them the ability to take on problems on their own later down the track. I feel that this is the main key to success as without this ability the student will give up half way. Empowerment and showing them that it isn't as hard as what they think is crucial. I am a very patient…

I believe one of the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student is being able to identify what methods of teacher works for the student, whether that be through diagrams or through explanations. Furthermore, I believe that tutors should be able to set up their students for the future and help their students become self-sufficient…

Responsibility is the first word that comes to my mind. I come from Vietnam, and I have seen very few Australian students who require a biology tutor, comparing to Vietnamese students. For me, it is absolutely pertinent for tutors to build a rapport and gain trust from their student, which may encompass many different actions. It may involve giving subject advice from experience, being reassuring and having sound knowledge of the course and content. In doing so, tutors can aid students to develop a genuine interest in the…

Inspire students to understand the importance and broader concepts within mathematics. Also translate the mathematics to a way a student can understand - perhaps look at it more graphically, or by using a real world example - and by breaking down a complex problem into simple, easy to understand parts. Inside Brooklyn ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Portia explored place value with decimals and practiced ascending and descending order using decimal numbers, working visually to reinforce understanding.

In Year 8, Alex focused on solving linear equations—including translating word problems into algebraic form—and reviewed techniques for tackling inequalities.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ben revised trigonometry concepts such as the unit circle and SOHCAHTOA, also strengthening skills in Pythagoras' theorem through targeted practice problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, a student often relied on mental calculation instead of writing out sums—after a five-second pause, she would solve in her head rather than confirm the operation on paper. This sometimes led to confusion and missed errors, as noted: "Remembering to solve operations on paper instead of in her head."

In Year 11 coordinate geometry, setting out variables before entering values into a calculator was inconsistent; skipping this step made it harder to spot mistakes.

In one session, using the wrong calculator function caused frustration and self-doubt, especially when the error went unchecked until review.

Recent Achievements

A Brooklyn Park tutor recently saw a Year 10 student who used to rush through reading assignments now slow down, reread sentences for clarity, and even reach for a dictionary or thesaurus independently—something she avoided before.

In Year 8 maths, one student who previously hesitated to ask for help now confidently points out difficulties, especially with rounding and multiplication strategies.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student made a leap by connecting "weeks" to 7 times tables after struggling with this link last term, then eagerly completed a set of related word problems on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hilton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Emmaus Christian College - Brooklyn Park Campus.
