The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be a good mentor and teacher. Literal academic success is amazing but the most important thing for a tutor is to be apart of a student's knowledge growing and strengthening. I consider personal growth and development to be immensely important and helping a student achieve their own goals to…

The most important thing that a tutor could do for a student would be to gage what level they are at, and give them questions according to that, because if someone was aiming to get above 50% on a test for example, it would be important to spend more time on the basics, than the questions that only 5-10% of the cohort could answer. My strengths…

Tutors are important elements for student success in active learning and problem solving environments . Periodic evaluation of tutors professional behaviour helps to determine the faculty development. Tutors need to achieve skills and attitudes for supporting the 'learning process and metacognitive knowledge' and 'assessing and giving feedback'.…

Be encouraging and readily available. Tutoring is all about allowing students to reach their inner potential by giving them the extra push & extra support. This means that tutors need to be encouraging towards their students to instill that confidence in them. Boosting morale pays dividends and means that students are more likely to achieve their…

There are a lot of things that can be considered important while tutoring a student. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to find their strengths and abilities in the subjects they are struggling with. This will help them in improving academically and increase their interpersonal skills as this will encourage them in asking…

The most important things a tutor can do are build confidence, make learning feel manageable, and create a safe space where students are not afraid to make mistakes. A tutor should guide students to understand why something works, not just memorise it, and support them in developing strong study habits and independence. My strengths are patience,…

It is imperative for a tutor to know the content and tailor the teaching to the student's individual needs. It is important to consider their strengths, needs, interests, and prior knowledge. It is essential to motivate, engage, and empathise with the student. My strength as a tutor lies in the experience and skills I am gaining while studying for…

A tutor should be able to help the student in understanding the information to the best level possible which will increase the confidence in the student especially when doing a subject they do not enjoy or struggle in. Since I just recently completed Year 12 I believe I can understand the frustration and stress a student can feel while studying.…

One of the most important things that a tutor can do is actually get to know the student as well as their learning style in order to be able to make a real impact on the student's learning. Another key thing that a tutor can do identify the areas that the student needs extra help in in order to focus on these which could involve asking a few…

Every student is special and expecting same response from every student is really not good . The velocity with which the child,s brain works is really different from kid to kid so the explanation from a tutor side has to be made again and again without thinking of his time till a sense of satisfaction is achieved from every student As a tutor, i…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to understand their needs and any difficulties they are facing along their academic journey and come up with various solutions rather than just teaching. Also, I believe customised tutoring sessions are particularly helpful in education as students learn differently. Thus,…

Giving the student confidence to face exams and eventually life itself. Some children when they are not good at a subject loose their confidence and they become shy or aggressive in the classroom. I believe it's important for tutors to create a positive mindset around learning. I as a tutor would ensure my learning space is one where students can gain confidence and master skills without fear of making mistakes. This creates adventurous learners, who I can assist in exploring and forming their own connections in their learning. Another…

Local Reviews

David did come over yesterday for a lesson with Kyle. Like you mentioned, he is a diligent and competent tutor with experience in teaching. He did put in a lot of effort even before he arrived to make sure he knew what he was dealing with. I am very happy and impressed with his teaching. Just wish we had found him earlier!

Inside BullaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Arjun worked on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions as well as exploring the perimeter and area of solids.

In Year 11, Leah focused on financial mathematics topics such as compound interest and reducing balance loans, including practice with a financial calculator.

For Year 12, Matt tackled networks and graphs by analyzing different types of connections within graph structures using diagrams to aid understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student arrived to tutoring without a textbook, pen, or paper and seemed unmotivated; as one tutor put it, "he was confident with his answers (although wrong)." This led to avoidable mistakes in algebra and left little room for productive feedback.

In senior sessions, another student struggled with test time management—running out of time on longer questions meant they missed opportunities to demonstrate understanding.

Meanwhile, a primary student avoided writing working for maths patterns due to fear of making errors, which made it difficult to identify where their reasoning broke down during the session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bulla recently noticed a big shift with one Year 11 student who used to hesitate during revision but is now actively problem-solving and asking for more challenging questions on her own.

In another high school session, a student mastered a brand-new method after struggling at first—she worked through each step independently and finished the lesson without needing extra support.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student, who previously waited for help before attempting worded maths problems, has started drawing diagrams herself and completed all her assigned homework without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sydenham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Overnewton Anglican Community College - Canowindra Campus.
