I think it is very important as a tutor to start a topic from its basic and build a strong idea of the subject material so that the student enjoys studying. That is going to boost up the student's confidence on the subject. I can not stress enough about the importance of building confidence in a student. I am very patient with my students and I am…

Tutors have to be cooperative and empathetic to teach students. Moreover, they need to embody leadership qualities. It is necessary for the students to enjoy learning so that they can have a complete grasp of knowledge about a particular subject. This will allow them to achieve their desired results. There are many facets of tutoring essential to achieve the optimum yet I think the most important element is the one on one quality of tutoring. This enables a student to be provided with specific feedback and assistance of their areas for improvement or difficulties. Understanding the strengths an weaknesses of a student is the most important…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be loving. Actually caring for the student's academic success will not only make them more likely to succeed, but it will help them go beyond to reaching a scholarly level. My two leading strengths are that I know how to teach to make difficult subjects more easy to understand and I am…

Being supportive for a student no matter what the situation is. Creating a realistic goal and achievement for the student and working together to strive towards that. As a tutor it is my responsibility to make sure the student understands and grasps the concept of the lesson. I am student myself so I know the struggles and the laziness that comes with having to study. I think a tutor should not just focus on studying but also make the study environment a little relaxed and enjoyable as it is hard to concentrate…

Genuinely understanding the students need and tailoring the best approach of teaching accordingly is the best thing a tutor can do. Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. When a tutor…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a comfortable and supportive environment where the student feels confident to ask questions and make mistakes. What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build self-confidence, without this they will not believe in themselves and their ability, and therefore will not make the improvements they are capable of, inspire them to create their own goals, both long-term and short term, big and small, and of course, help…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is by understanding the student first on what its weakness or strengths lies on. Then deliver theories based on the insight gained. Inside BurwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised multiplication and fractions, working through long division strategies to boost confidence.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on solving quadratic equations by factorisation and simplifying expressions, as well as exploring graph transformations using visual aids.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Mia revised simultaneous equations and functions—solving systems both algebraically and graphically—to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on quadratic equations often omitted key steps in their written solutions—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors—making it harder to identify mistakes.

In a Year 8 class, one student avoided homework and relied heavily on guessing answers instead of attempting the calculations, especially during worded problems.

For a Year 4 lesson, another child struggled to focus and frequently left tasks incomplete when practicing multiplication tables.

Meanwhile, a senior student preparing for exams did not attempt assigned practice papers outside lessons, resulting in less familiarity with time-pressured questions.

Recent Achievements

One Burwood tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rely on step-by-step guidance now arriving at sessions with her own attempted exam questions, only needing small hints to push through tricky parts—she's even begun correcting her own mistakes before asking for help.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who struggled to keep up with homework is now consistently completing tasks on time and presenting neater working out in maths, showing real ownership of her learning.

In a younger class, one child who often hesitated to start tasks has started counting by twos independently and no longer says "I don't know" right away when faced with new problems.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burwood Library and Community Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Burwood Public School.
