The primary reason why a student may hire a tutor is to give them the in-depth understanding of "Why" the concept is the way it hence. Hence, explaining them the core concept, which enables them to solve the problems during their exams and assignments without having any second doubts. Additionally, as a part of tutor, it is my responsibility to…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student’s confidence and create a comfortable learning environment. When students feel supported, they are more willing to ask questions and engage with the material. I also focus on identifying gaps in understanding and helping students develop strong foundations, so they can…

Every student learns differently, and building a positive relationship allows a tutor to identify what motivates them and what support they need. As a tutor I believe the most important things that I could do for a student is to be there for them when they need help, clearing the doubts they have for better understanding and help them to understand a type of problem so they can solve different problems of the same type. I think being a student is my greatest strength as a tutor as I can…

In my opinion, the most important thing we can do for a student is not just to teach but to also listen. To ensure that the student can make the most out of each session, its best to first understand the areas that the student is having trouble with and then to work as a team to increase their understanding in these area. My strength would be the…

A tutor should be able to teach in a way that interests students. A tutor should be able to identify each student's strengths and weaknesses and track everyone's individual progress. A tutor must explain every concept clearly, but at the same time it's important that they develop student's thinking skills by always asking questions and…

A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

In my opinion, the relationship beyond subject tutoring is the most important aspect of a tutor. A great tutor must have the ability to connect deeply with the students to give them personalised teaching methods and materials, which ultimately increase both efficiency and effectiveness in teaching. In order of doing so, a tutor must have a great…

Building rapport and a positive classroom environment. In my experience, the quickest and most effective way to see results in a tutoring setting is by ensuring that the student genuinely wants to be there; otherwise, they won’t put any effort into their learning. I believe most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide a safe and encouraging space where the student feels free to voice any of their concerns or to ask questions. Inside BurwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Flynn focused on understanding matrix multiplication and transformation matrices, working through worded questions to interpret their real-world applications.

In Year 10, Sucheta completed targeted revision for her upcoming probability test, including practice with Venn diagrams and the addition rule.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sam tackled graphing parabolas—finding range and domain—and solved worded problems involving both parabolas and hyperbolas, using visual methods to reinforce concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for SACs in advanced maths was advised to "write down lots of notes to take into his sacs," yet often relied on memory rather than organizing a clear reference book—this left him searching for definitions and methods mid-task.

In a Year 8 session, heavy dependence on calculators was noted; as one tutor put it, "very reliant on calculator need to ease off and start using paper working more to help with test work."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner struggled with homework conversions between fractions and decimals, leading to incomplete practice before class.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Burwood recently noticed Flynn, a high school student, tackle financial and linear modules that had previously left him unsure—he now works through practice exams with only minor errors needing correction.

In another session, Tayla (Year 7) shifted from hesitating to speak up to regularly volunteering answers and openly asking for help when stuck—a big step compared to her initial quietness.

Meanwhile, Sucheta (senior years) mastered long division of polynomials after initially struggling; by the end of the lesson she was confidently solving them without support.
