From personal experience, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in them. With constant encouragement and support, a student is able to learn and show their full potential. I am patient and always remain calm and positive in all situations. After working with children for almost 4 years, I understand how passion and…

A tutor should be able to teach in a way that interests students. A tutor should be able to identify each student's strengths and weaknesses and track everyone's individual progress. A tutor must explain every concept clearly, but at the same time it's important that they develop student's thinking skills by always asking questions and…

I believe that the most important thing which a tutor can do for a student is providing support, encouragement as well as most importantly building confidence within the subject. The importance of constructing a Childs esteem and sense of accomplishment within a subject is often disregarded however the effect of doing so is transformative within…

A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

In my opinion, the relationship beyond subject tutoring is the most important aspect of a tutor. A great tutor must have the ability to connect deeply with the students to give them personalised teaching methods and materials, which ultimately increase both efficiency and effectiveness in teaching. In order of doing so, a tutor must have a great…

Building rapport and a positive classroom environment. In my experience, the quickest and most effective way to see results in a tutoring setting is by ensuring that the student genuinely wants to be there; otherwise, they won’t put any effort into their learning. Its a very open question in my point of view but, if I want to say it as brief as I can its backing them up making them reach a certain level and then teaching them how to fish instead of just giving them fish and when they learn how to fish giving them tips for catching bigger fish. I believe a tutor should know phycology so he/she knows how to…

A tutor should not just solve a question for a student, rather they need to supply the foundations and processes that allow a question to be broken down and solved easily. Inside BurwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Flynn focused on understanding matrix multiplication and transformation matrices, working through worded questions to interpret their real-world applications.

In Year 10, Sucheta completed targeted revision for her upcoming probability test, including practice with Venn diagrams and the addition rule.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sam tackled graphing parabolas—finding range and domain—and solved worded problems involving both parabolas and hyperbolas, using visual methods to reinforce concepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for SACs in advanced maths was advised to "write down lots of notes to take into his sacs," yet often relied on memory rather than organizing a clear reference book—this left him searching for definitions and methods mid-task.

In a Year 8 session, heavy dependence on calculators was noted; as one tutor put it, "very reliant on calculator need to ease off and start using paper working more to help with test work."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner struggled with homework conversions between fractions and decimals, leading to incomplete practice before class.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Burwood recently noticed Flynn, a high school student, tackle financial and linear modules that had previously left him unsure—he now works through practice exams with only minor errors needing correction.

In another session, Tayla (Year 7) shifted from hesitating to speak up to regularly volunteering answers and openly asking for help when stuck—a big step compared to her initial quietness.

Meanwhile, Sucheta (senior years) mastered long division of polynomials after initially struggling; by the end of the lesson she was confidently solving them without support.
