I believe the most important thing in tutoring is to allow the student to find independence within themselves. It can manifest itself as trust in their abilities to do the work and it ultimately helps them later in life as it is a very important skill. I think I am a very positive individual and I know how to work with different children. I have a…

I think it is important to show how different problems are related to one another and thus create a network of interconnected ideas rather than having a number of discrete, unrelated ideas. I believe this help reduce the intimidation factor of learning maths as it both improves understanding and reduces the cognitive load by reducing the effective…

As learning can be a difficult and stressful process, I as a biology tutor have the important role of guiding students to improve their abilities so that they gain confidence and develop enjoyment and an appreciation for learning that will serve them well in the future. Further, the classroom may not always feel like a safe space to provide…

Make them enjoy a subject. as a teacher you can only do so much when it comes to teaching. you can give them all the work, call them, and pester them, but if they don't like it they will never excel in it. As a biology tutor, it is important that you pass on the right knowledge to the student. Make them think about things by themselves instead of giving them straight away. A tutor, shouldn't discourage students if they ask a dumb question, they should resolve all their queries with a good understanding. A tutor's job is to support a student and be…

I think the most important thing for a biology tutor to do for a student is make sure they not only know but actually understand the content, like having knowledge on a deeper meaning, so in a test if you face a nuanced question, you are able to solve it due to your in-depth understanding of the content. I was tutored in highschool which has…

Ultimately, I think a good tutor teaches the student skills that they can utilize in their general learning and subject specific study. A tutor should be in a position to be a mentor to the student and share their experience in relation to studying their subject. This can help the student overcome what can initially be a daunting task as it is a…

To me, the most essential role a biology tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering…

Apart from the obvious requirements to provide sound academic knowledge and advice, the other aspect of tutoring that I consider most important is getting the student excited about learning. The best teachers have a successful balance of both aspects. When a biology tutor is excited about the content, that will get the student excited as well. An…

I think that the most important things that a biology tutor can do for a student would be to inspire them to love the subjects that they take and study, to be able to inspire them to do their work and really work at it in their own time, such that the tutoring isn't a dependency but a supplement to their success. Once that's achieved, it becomes…

In the context of Science and Mathematics, the key aspect is HOW to think. Science requires imagination, innovation as well as an excellent recall and grasp of modern scientific understanding. Mathematics, being a tool - requires the students to be well-equipped with the basic mathematical tools. To directly answer this question; a tutor must…

Inside CammerayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 students like Olivia revised perimeter and volume, tackling practice problems and textbook exercises to solidify their understanding; meanwhile, Year 10 student Ethan worked through algebraic fractions and practiced factoring trinomials to improve his manipulation of expressions.

For Year 11, Sam focused on differential calculus using the power rule and also applied the chain rule in various function-based questions for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's written work in algebra was hard to follow—presentation made it difficult to spot errors or track working, as a tutor noted: "Her layout in solving equations was messy and steps were easy to miss."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student preparing for advanced maths tended to rely heavily on formulas rather than building intuitive understanding during trigonometry revision.

In Year 7, late homework submission and incomplete practice questions led to weaker recall of volume concepts.

For a senior (Year 12) student, discouragement after a tough exam meant feedback wasn't always reviewed, slowing improvement in graphing skills.

Recent Achievements

One Cammeray tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after weeks of hesitation, completed textbook calculus exercises entirely without guidance for the first time.

In Year 8 maths, another student who previously needed reminders to double-check answers started working through multi-step equations independently and now self-corrects mistakes on the spot.

A Year 4 learner, once reluctant to participate in group problem-solving, confidently shared her method for finding the area of a triangular prism during their last session and explained each step to classmates.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Naremburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cammeray Public School.
