I believe that tutors need to not only teach topics to students, but they must also be able to build the students confidence in their progress. Learning must be interesting and engaging as students must enjoy the process of learning for them to fully understand the topics as they will only peform well in engaging discussions. Adapting to the…

I believe the most important thing I can do for my students would to be patient with them, taking the necessary time for them to understand the content they need help with. Additionally, rather than directly telling them the methods to do a certain question, I believe a good tutor should rather guide the student to the correct solution, which…

I think a tutor can give a student a lot but the most important thing is boosting the morale of the student. A teacher has the power to build up or tear down a students's self-esteem and make a student's day or ruin it in an instant. So, a teacher must fill the role of someone who has the best interests of every child at heart. The main focus…

Give the student hope that they are able to do achieve something. I am that person where if u promise someone something that you know won't be achieved will damage that students confidence more than saying 'I can't promise anything, but I will try my absolute hardest to get you to your destination'. By giving students hope, and belief that they…

First and foremost helping the student to develop logic, as logic is everywhere, and making them understand each problem before solving it. The most important way would be to change the way of learning. Finally, the main part would be to increase their grades, so that they can enroll in world-reputed universities and colleges in the near future…

Apart from many things, confidence to then be able to take back into the classroom, and real world. A tutor usually has a much smaller class to handle, so can develop greater relations with the students and clearly understand what each student needs to excel. A good tutor, besides academic understanding, communication, patience and flexibility are the key aspects. Every student has their own unique learning curve and techniques, it is the tutor's job to discuss with the student and figure out the best way to convey the ideas and give appropriate study load. There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all,…

I would consider an ongoing \'positive reinforcement and encouragement\' to student is crucial for their success. Students love to be motivated in learning and they love to feel loved and supported in their learning journey. We as tutors are not just there to teach them what to do, but as their motivators to guide and encourage, so that they can…

The most important thing a tutor can do, is to assist students help themselves or to assist them so that they can become an independent learner, and thus, no longer need a tutor. A tutor must also remain enthused and passionate, so that they are able to keep their students motivated and eager to learn. Tutors should always have a positive…

If you can make your students shine and bring their own strengths to the forefront, you've won. As mentioned, creating an alternate method for rote learning is to let the concept sink in through simple derivations and i have used it in my past so i'd love to pass it on to my students. For being a mathematics tutor, i believe the most important element is to not just bombard students with formulas but to explain it to them where they came…

When teaching a concept, I will always go back to the beginning to strengthen the basics of the topic. This way, development will be made more efficiently. These strong foundations will therefore lead to long term success and memory. I always take a step-by-step approach, making sure to focus on foundations before moving forward. I put my students…

The most important thing a tutor can do is support their students. Inside CampbellfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zoyi focused on developing narrative writing skills and improving spelling through mock tests, while also revising Roman numerals in maths with targeted practice.

In Year 7, Marcus worked on solving algebraic equations and translating between decimals, fractions, and percentages using step-by-step breakdowns.

For Year 8, Jasmine explored probability concepts and tackled advanced multiplication problems to strengthen her calculation accuracy.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student in algebra was advised to "present his working out in a more spaced out manner"—crowded equations led to missed steps when solving for variables.

In Year 11, as one tutor noted, "double checking is essential," but skipping this meant repeating the same operation twice during advanced equation practice.

Meanwhile, a primary student's messy layout in vertical addition made it hard to track numbers accurately; she needed "extra attention to the numbers she is adding".

Homework completion and time management also became an issue for a Year 8 student—missed assignments slowed her progress on multiplying decimals.

Recent Achievements

In Year 9 maths, Joshua has moved from hesitating with fraction and decimal conversions to consistently converting and simplifying them on his own, even when the process was tricky last week.

Another high school student, Aiden, struggled previously with algebra but now shows real independence—he's proficient with equations involving coefficients and is much quicker solving problems that used to take several attempts.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, Zoyi identified spelling mistakes without prompting and achieved a perfect 6/6 on her follow-up test after focused revision.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fawkner Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Campbellfield Heights Primary School.
