Be a friend. This is how I was taught by my tutors and this is how I taught as well. If there is a deeper bond than that of just a student and teacher, the student really shines. The students open up more to the teacher. This helps the teacher to plan on how to help the student. I can understand what the student needs. I can connect with the…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is be supportive. All behaviour is belief driven, if a tutor convinces a pupil that he can do it, he will. I believe I am calm, patient, persevering, and supportive. Especially when it comes to perseverance, I will not be deterred if a student doesn't originally understand my explanations as, if I…

The most important thing to do for a student is to be supportive and patient when teaching them. We have all been there before. Always be kind. My greatest strength is that I am highly empathetic and I can put myself in my students shoes when they struggle in grasping a certain concept. I am very patient and can reassure them that I was once there…

Probably to make sure they understand the underlying material rather than just giving the answers. Helping them through problems, and actually encouraging and motivating them along without just revealing the answers will help develop their problem solving skills, making the next problems easier to overcome. Tutors can provide a one-on-one situation where they're able to realise the students weaknesses and target those areas. They can also be someone else for the students to ask questions where they may be too shy or unable to during a large classroom environment. Tutoring can also help reinforce content that students learnt that day or week. I am a…

Most tutors forget that students never enjoy tutoring, so it is important to set interesting challenges to keep students motivated and also polishing their skills using unorthodox methods. Too much of the time tutors just read off the textbook and don't provide alternative methods or keep the students' focus on their work. I believe the students…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is guide them. What i mean by guiding them is correcting simple mistakes so that they would learn from them and remember not to make the same mistake again. I found that by making a mistake it was a lot easier to remember the correct method after being helped by my teacher. Simlarly promoting…

I believe that the most important thing that a tutor can do is to work with a student from a student's perspective. It is exactly the reason why group-studying is so effective as everyone is on the same wavelength. A tutor's job is to be able to "read" into the student's mind and solve-problems by comfortably adjusting and improvising…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their understanding, confidence, and independence. Ultimately, a tutor must teach his/her student to be able to rely on themselves and think autonomously when problem solving i.e. not to be afraid of trial and error. I would say my strengths are attributes such as patience with the student (repetition when necessary), determination in getting the message across, and a friendly attitude towards all…

Everything starts with guidance. Words are so powerful. So the main duty for a tutor is to give the key points to the student and make the student love the subject. So if you give the right guidance to the student they will be more courageous in the following courses. Because i was a honours student both in high school and university, i believe…

Inside CaringbahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Diyian practised converting fractions into decimals and worked through NAPLAN-style maths questions for extra confidence.

In Year 8, Sam focused on solving linear equations using algebraic techniques and explored the basics of quadratic equations, including factorisation to find solutions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Zoe covered radians and trigonometric ratios in preparation for upcoming class assessments, with practice applying formulas to worded problems.

Recent Challenges

During a recent Year 12 English session, she needed to adapt her writing style to the question and gather sources as she learned, leading to last-minute research stress.

A Year 9 maths student was advised to slow down and write each step clearly, but untidy handwriting—like an "8" resembling a "6"—caused confusion during calculations.

In Year 7, one student struggled with interpreting worded questions, especially under fatigue, making small mistakes like misreading symbols.

For another in Year 10, forgetting to complete assigned homework left gaps in their understanding of algebraic methods for upcoming assessments.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Caringbah noticed a big shift with Tom, a high school student who previously struggled to link maths methods to different problems—after mastering conversion techniques, he confidently applied them to new scenarios without hesitation.

Another high schooler, Maiee, moved beyond simply finding sources for her history module and began independently connecting them to rubric points and practice essay questions—a step up from earlier sessions where she waited for prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once hesitated with mental arithmetic now adds numbers out loud and told her tutor, "It's easy once you know how," after solving several problems on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caringbah Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like De La Salle Catholic College, Caringbah.
