The most important thing is to understand the students misconceptions and how to correct the cause of that misconception. To ensure that their fundamental knowledge is corrected before pursuing more complex tasks. It is also essentially to show empathy and respect so they may respect you back and try their best for you. I am empathetic and…

For me, a tutor isn't a person that helps a student achieve a high grade or even a grade that a student wants - although that is one characteristic of the job. For the most part, a tutor is someone who sharpens the pencil that the teacher has given the student, and shows them how to write properly. They erase the mistakes the student makes, and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be committed to them and to learn the way in which the student understands concepts. By doing this, a tutor can teach the students in a way that ensure the best possibility for success and growth. For me, tutoring is 100% about the student's growth, and as such, fully understanding the…

This is probably the best decision we've made. Nushna has a great warm personality. She already has my daughter enjoying maths and ivannah looks forward to every Monday. I cannot praise Nushna enough. She is a great tutor. Ten out of ten, absolutely.

Inside Chambers FlatTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Jayden revised the index laws, tackled derivatives from first principles, and practised factorising with long division before starting work on the unit circle in trigonometry.

Year 11 student Sarah focused on simplifying trigonometric expressions and solving equations for given domains, using worked examples.

For a younger student in Year 5, Liam concentrated on addition and subtraction of proper and improper fractions, moving into comparing fractions through word problems to build problem-solving confidence.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often avoided writing out full working in algebra, preferring to "answer from the top of his head," which made it harder to spot calculation slips—"showing working out is crucial," noted a tutor.

In senior maths, forgetting steps like including the constant in integration or skipping justification for solutions slowed progress and meant errors sometimes went unchecked.

One Year 7 session revealed that simple familiar questions could stall progress until hints were provided, hinting at a need for more independent problem-starting practice.

Timed tasks sometimes led to unfinished questions, leaving students frustrated as exam pressure increased.

Recent Achievements

A Chambers Flat tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate during problem-solving now actively asks questions when unsure, showing a real shift from silent guessing to open engagement.

In a senior session, one high schooler, after previously making small errors with derivatives, managed to work through almost every exercise correctly and independently during revision—an encouraging turnaround.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who once worked quietly is now talking aloud while adding numbers and getting most sums right, marking both improved accuracy and new willingness to share her thinking as she works.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan Village Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Philomena School.
