Being a teacher, it's his/her duty to make the student understand any concept accurately with an ease and with great patience. It is not right to shout or get angry on any person if he or she is not able to do any thing, all you need is some time and practice and also some tricks to solve any problem. I am a very patient person and work with full…

I touched on some of these points in my previous answers, but as a tutor I believe the ultimate goal should be to provide one's students with an academic toolbox in the form of an understanding of the fundamental principles of any given topic. By covering first principles, and providing students with problem-solving abilities, he or she can then…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help the student understand rather than showing the student, as when you understand the process you're less likely to forget than when you just know the process. To prepare for class and constantly check up on their progress. Students often need help outside of class, which lots of tutors do not provide. I am always accessible outside of class hours, ensuring students get help whenever they need it. Another important thing is to motivate the student. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is really spend the time and be patient with the students' needs to improve on the skill they may be struggling on. I believe it's vital that the student feels safe and comfortable to make mistakes and learn from them. I also believe that tutors can not only guide students with…

In my opinion the most important thing is to teach your students HOW to learn. This means to teach them how to approach a new topic and break it into smaller steps, and how to use a study technique that work best for them. As we have all heard: give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. :)…

In my opinion, one of the most important things a tutor can do is to make it clear to a student that they are capable and believe in their abilities as a student. This establishes trust and goes a long way in terms of fixing problems of difficulties in any subject area. It will also build a student's confidence in themself all while knowing there…

I always say that the most important thing is being patient. Washim was absolutely fantastic with our daughter Josephine! He was very patient and knowledgeable. Josephine went from a C student in Semester 1 to an A student in Semester 2 last year. The only variable that changed was tutoring with Washim during that period of time.

Inside Chapel HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Alex worked on division skills, converting fractions to decimals, and applying the order of operations through targeted practice.

In Year 8, Jamie focused on consolidating index laws—covering multiplication and division of indices—and practiced calculations with negative integers, reinforcing sign rules.

For Year 10, Sam reviewed simple and compound interest problems and revisited last year's finance topics for consolidation ahead of upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

Alex does rush through some of his multiplication which causes wrong answers.

In Year 8 algebra, a student struggled to break complex problems into manageable steps without support, making equation manipulation harder than necessary.

For a Year 11 student, forgetting to bring notes and not recapping past topics meant essential area formulas were inconsistently recalled during lessons.

A different senior student lost focus midway through multi-step problems and found it hard to re-engage, particularly when revising for exams in measurement and linear equations.

Recent Achievements

A Chapel Hill tutor noticed Lizzie, a Year 10 student, moving from hesitation with linear equations to tackling most questions independently after just a brief explanation.

In a recent high school session, Felix demonstrated genuine progress by recalling Pythagoras' Theorem accurately without prompts—something he'd previously needed reminders for—and even welcomed exam feedback, openly discussing areas he found tricky rather than brushing them aside.

Meanwhile, Alex in Year 7 has started breaking down word problems independently, showing much more independence than earlier in the term when he would wait for guidance before attempting new challenges.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kenmore Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chapel Hill State School.
