Tutor can be patient with their student and let them learn at their pace. Also, I believe a tutor should NEVER spoon fed but rather act like a mentor, guiding and helping if and only where it is required. I'm patient with students and understand that each student is different and have their own learning pace. I take pride in my ability to break…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

To create a supportive, encouraging environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and grow. Human connection is the foundation of effective learning. In a world flooded with online resources and AI-driven tools, what students often lack isn't access to information, but meaningful guidance. Tutors bring the human element back into learning by…

Genuinely understanding the students need and tailoring the best approach of teaching accordingly is the best thing a tutor can do. No students are same and have same level of intelligence and this should be considered by the teacher. As a tutor, my biggest strength is that i genuinely love teaching not just solving problems, but explaining deeply…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to always encourage them that they have the ability to achieve more than they think. Building up their confidence and shifting students' mindsets from "learning is hard and a chore" to "learning is fun and I'm excited to know more", are important things we must do as a tutor. My strengths as…

A tutor needs to inspire the students in such a way that they know what their efforts will make them accomplish. A very few teachers are able to provide the contextual applications of what they teach the students. I believe it is paramount that a student know about WHY he is being taught something. Sparking interest in studies is not easy at times…

A tutor should, first and foremost, be amicable and trustworthy to students. This means that students should be able to confide in their tutors in the event that they are struggling to grasp matter, and, no matter how many times they ask, the tutor should provide the necessary assistance. 1. Personalize the learning. every student is different, so what works for one does not necessarily work for the other. 2. Be ready to help. A trait I consider to be very important as a tutor is being a good leader. They should be very responsible for their actions, meaning that they will ensure each tutoring session is effective for the student. They should also be assertive, trustworthy and mindful, which helps them offer guidance to other students. Lastly, they should keep an open…

A tutor should be there to support the student through all academic struggles they are facing and help the student reach all their academic goals. The tutor should be familiar with their students learning style and preferences, then adjust their tutoring to suit. Inside CheltenhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Jack reviewed Ohm's Law and the differences between series and parallel electric circuits, also addressing questions from his school work.

For Year 11 Mia, lessons focused on algebraic factorisation of linear expressions and coordinate geometry—calculating midpoints, gradients, and distances between two points.

Meanwhile, Year 11 Olivia worked through exam revision covering quadratic equations, probability problems, graphing equations, and aspects of financial mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student found aligning number places in decimal calculations confusing, particularly when working on clock questions—her written layout sometimes made it hard to check work for errors.

In Year 8, one student often relied heavily on notes and formula sheets during revision; he wasn't able to do some of the revision questions without looking at his notes, which slowed progress with algebra and indices.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student had incomplete homework in statistics, meaning less time could be spent practicing exam-style problems. Gaps from missing or late schoolwork lingered into revision sessions, especially before assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Cheltenham tutor noted a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for help, now openly voices questions whenever she's confused—especially during challenging proofs.

In Year 12 maths, Levi struggled with expanding and factorising equations at first, but recently completed all set problems independently and accurately.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary years, who found division daunting before, has started grouping objects into sets using diagrams and then confidently writing out the matching equation without prompting—something she would have avoided just weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Epping Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Epping Heights Public School.
