Second, make prepare a good lesson that makes the study more interesting, for example giving small gifts and praise when students provide a good answer or result. Lastly, to be…

I think that it is imperative for the tutor to try their hardest to create a passion for the subject in the student, as this will motivate them to try as hard as they can. My passion for maths not only motivated me to study but enabled me to thoroughly enjoy and look forward to every lesson. It is also important that the tutor has an open mindset…

A teacher can instill courage in the students to learn and study anything they want. The journey of learning what you want is long and it requires passion to undertake that. Here, a high school teacher can build such strong confidence in the students through his own experience that students would never feel bogged down by the stress of future…

They are also there to answer and clarify a student’s questions and assist in developing a structured work routine. Since I have recently completed the HSC and have studied the…

A tutor should not just give students the answers, but help them understand the process so they can eventually solve problems independently. Most importantly, students should feel supported, comfortable making mistakes and…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be fully committed to them while fully giving the student their attention while teaching. A tutor is a guide to show the right path. Students might stumble a lot, but tutor should hold him up, stand by him and show the right direction. Never giving up on a student, looking for opportunities to advance their skill is what a tutor should always do. I try to explain things from the student's perspective. For example, a gamer might…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to adapt to their way of learning and teach them in a way that students would understand. It’s also important that the students understand the problem in depth rather than move on straight away after they get a question from that topic right. I think my strengths as a tutor is that I…

Inside Clemton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and previewed long division, while also working on understanding maths in word problems through homework tasks.

In Year 8, Lucas focused on factorising quadratic equations and revising how to use the quadratic formula to solve them, including discussing what "roots" mean for parabolas.

Year 9 student Sarah worked on manipulating linear equations by making a variable the subject and used tables and graphs to explore relationships between variables.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student avoided writing working for long division, preferring mental methods; this led to mistakes he couldn't check or fix—"He needs more practice to ensure he follows the new method instead of depending on his older method."

In Year 11 trigonometry, a tendency to regurgitate formulas without showing process meant errors went unnoticed.

For a Year 3 student, skipping homework and resisting new ways of setting out sums blocked progress with fractions.

Another in Year 7 hesitated to ask questions during algebra revision, missing feedback that would have clarified misconceptions and built confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Clemton Park tutor noticed a big change in Willa, a high school student who used to get stuck on wordy maths problems—she now asks questions when unsure and recently solved several tricky ones on her own using new strategies.

Cooper, also in high school, shifted from waiting for hints to actively looking for solutions and tackling quadratic equations with much more independence than before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously needed help reading longer passages managed to read an entire book out loud solo this week, only stumbling over a couple of words.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bexley North Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clemton Park Public School.
