The most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to help them build their confidence whilst they learn new concepts. In doing so, I believe it will allow them to enjoy learning, as well as allowing them to understand and apply this concept in a shortened period of time. I believe my strengths as a tutor is that I'm adaptable. Every…

To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

The most important thing that anyone can do for their student is to have them realise that everyone started where they are starting, nobody was born knowing anything, and just because you don't understand a concept now, doesn't mean you won't ever understand it. It is so important for tutors to adapt their method of teaching to the way the student learns. Every student not only has different needs and difficulties, but learns concepts differently. It is extremely important to regularly re-evaluate the student's objectives. Modifying your approach as a tutor to make the student feel comfortable and…

I think the best thing a tutor can do is make learning feel achievable. A big part of that is adapting to how each student learns, breaking things down in a way that makes sense to them, and giving them the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Tutoring isn't just about getting through the syllabus, it's about showing students how to think…

Inside ClontarfTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Jaida focused on surface area and volume formulas, then practised strategies for algebraic fractions and coordinate geometry.

For Year 9, Amelie worked through surds—including simplifying, multiplying/dividing, and rationalising denominators—alongside revision of trigonometry concepts like bearings and angle calculations using diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lilly strengthened her addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills by tackling homework errors and used times tables games to boost recall speed for upcoming topics.

Recent Challenges

He needs to keep using steps and formulas provided, after seeing working skipped in algebra problems—this led to confusion when reviewing errors later.

In Year 11, one student arrived without a calculator or notes for trigonometry revision; the missing materials slowed progress, as key steps couldn't be practiced independently.

A Year 6 lesson highlighted the need for clearer written working: Ensuring she writes down questions and working out in a way she can understand would help her revisit tricky area and volume problems before tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Clontarf recently noticed some great shifts across a few students. One Year 11 student, who previously hesitated to speak up, now regularly asks questions when tackling tricky calculus problems and even challenged the tutor on certain methods to better understand the "why" behind solutions.

A Year 9 student surprised herself by completing her maths assignment ahead of schedule for the first time, showing new independence and avoiding last-minute stress.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student started correcting her own mistakes while practicing times tables—where she used to just wait for hints—finishing her worksheet without needing prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mosman Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Balgowlah Heights Public School.
