The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel comfortable and inculcate a 'can do' attitude. Make sure that they understand that if they put their mind to it, anything is possible and go along with them on that journey. I'm a 21yr old post graduate student. This puts me in roughly the same generation as the students. I…

A tutor can be a role model for the student. Generally students observe character and skills of a tutor and in most cases they try to imitate them. As a tutor we have to be a responsible individual gradually transferring our personality to aspiring students. After all today's students are tommorrow's mentors. I think my determination and my…

For me the most important thing a tutor can do is create a comfortable and encouraging environment where the student feels supported to be honest about what they’re struggling with and share how they think. I’m good at being a patient tutor that listens to how a student thinks through problems so we can work together to understand why…

A believe an effective tutor will support a student in a way that will eventually leave them comfortable, confident and prepared enough to no longer need the help of a tutor. However, I understand that this process may be a matter of weeks for some students and a matter of years for others. I think being a good tutor relies upon a variety of…

In my opinion, the most important things a tutor can do for a student would be to build confidence and make learning approachable according to the learning style of the student. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student, is to show the easiest method to learn the content of the subject. A tutor can teach the way to decode the subject matter. Once, the tutor teach the method to learn and the student understand that method, a student should become independent to learn similar topics. I think a tutor…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence while helping them truly understand the material. The most important lesson that I always give is that it is totally okay to make mistakes during practice, and I encourage them to make mistakes to see all the different ways they can interpret a question wrong. By understanding the wrong results (and why), students can be more confident when they truly know that they're right. My style of teaching…

Building a relationship and rapport with the student is vital for success in tutoring, it can be difficult for students to ask for help and accept it once given it, so making a student feel comfortable is the best strategy for ensuring success. We are very happy with our experience so far. It was simple to arrange and there was no problem finding a tutor available at the time we needed. We chose EzyMath tutoring as it was the only company that didn't send endless texts and emails to get us to sign up. The tutor arrived on time and kept my daughter engaged on maths the entire hour. Although she doesn't love maths (yet) the look of pride on her face after each session has been amazing.

Inside CoburgTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Ava practised addition and subtraction using a number line, and worked through NAPLAN-style word problems.

In Year 10, Jasmine focused on solving and rearranging algebraic equations as well as revising linear equations in preparation for her test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emmanuel explored circular functions—graphing sine and cosine—and tackled trigonometric equations to prepare for his upcoming CAT assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student became overwhelmed when facing unfamiliar algebra problems and tended to freeze rather than attempt different strategies, as noted: "He easily gets overwhelmed when faced with an unfamiliar problem."

In Year 11 calculus, skipping careful reading of questions led to repeated errors during CATs; one tutor observed he "needed to read the question more carefully."

Meanwhile, a primary student working on subtraction sometimes forgot to borrow but quickly improved once reminded.

For a Year 8 student, untidy written work in dividing polynomials meant errors went unnoticed until final checks.

These moments often left students frustrated or second-guessing themselves mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Coburg recently noticed Emmanuel, a Year 12 student, tackling complex numbers for the first time—a notoriously tricky topic—but he managed to grasp key ideas right away after struggling with similar advanced material last term.

Yvonne, also in high school, has shifted from relying on hints to independently placing angles and finding reference angles on the unit circle during calculus sessions.

Meanwhile, Jett in primary school explained multi-digit subtraction using an algorithm out loud—something he was hesitant to do before—and now confidently checks his own answers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbell-Turnbull Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Islamic College of Sport.
