I need to assist students in believing they can learn. I would need to carefully scaffold tasks and assignments. Learning strategies should be put in place with work habits that facilitate learning. Appropriate feedback and practice are also essential to ensure the knowledge, skills and understandings endures leading to improved learning…

Helping them to improve their core strengths in handwriting, communication abilities, and analytical solving. My strength in tutoring is building…

To give them confidence and make them feel good about themselves. There is nothing more counter-productive than making a student feel disheartened and bad about themselves, since self-doubt yields anxiety and often poor performance in exams. Establishing a basis of trust is vital for the success of the student, so that they feel in a safe space to…

I believe effective tutoring comes from understanding a student’s perspective when learning. A tutor who can do this can make lessons more engaging, identify learning barriers, and help students build genuine confidence and enjoyment in learning. Achieving this requires patience, empathy, and a willingness to understand each student’s…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is making his/her learning journey easier and fun. Not to forget, as a tutor, making sure my students have understood concepts and are able to tackle problems/questions. I believe in the idea of practical learning, i.e., linking concepts to real life events as much as possible. Alongside…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their student, is tailor their teaching application to the student's needs and personality. Each individual is different, and there is no single one way of teaching. I believe students incredibly appreciate a teacher or tutor that will listen to their needs, and to see where their main focal…

I also like to give my students a…

An effective tutor can make a student feel more confident and engaged with the learning process. Tutors must foster growth, independence, and a goal-oriented mindset so that each student can strive to overcome learning challenges, recognise their milestones, and identify any incompetencies in their work. This will ultimately strengthen their academic confidence, and allow students to grow from their mistakes. I have been able to adapt to a…

To be there for a student in a more personal and approachable way than the modern education system and its teachers can be, to help 'fill in the gaps' that the student may have missed in class and to be there for the student if they feel like the education system has failed them. Too many schools focus on the groups needs rather than the…

Inside Cordeaux HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Isla practised simplifying fractions, using order of operations, and converting numbers to percentages.

In Year 10, Tom focused on algebraic manipulation and completed survey data exercises from his worksheets.

For Year 11, Nathaniel reviewed domain and range for functions as well as key concepts in the transformations and graphs of quadratic equations, using visual sketches to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, a student preparing for an upcoming exam was encouraged to review solved questions independently, but he needed reminders to check his working instead of relying on memory, especially in algebra.

A Year 11 learner showed limited progress with simultaneous equations, often practicing only the familiar examples and not tackling more challenging variants—this narrowed exposure just before assessment.

In primary maths, one child occasionally made calculation errors when tired or unfocused; as noted, she sometimes forgot if the sum was addition or subtraction.

In senior English, lack of early exam planning left one student feeling underprepared for thesis writing.

Recent Achievements

One Cordeaux Heights tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student's approach to English essays: after weeks of hesitation, he now breaks down essay questions into clear steps and openly asks for help with structure instead of giving up.

In Year 9 maths, another student who previously relied on prompts surprised the tutor by finishing all surface area and volume problems independently—her first time completing the whole worksheet solo.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often skipped carrying tens in long addition began marking them carefully and handed in subtraction homework without any errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Eagle Vale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Unanderra Public School.
