I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build a student’s confidence while helping them develop a strong understanding of the subject. A good tutor should create a supportive learning environment, encourage questions, identify areas where the student needs help, and provide clear explanations and constructive feedback. I am patient,…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to have patience, be willing to take feedback as a tutor, and put the most effort in helping a child get most out of their learning. Often when working with kids of a young age, they can get frustrated quickly if they don't understand something, so it is important to be able to quickly calm…

The most important thing a tutor can do is guide the student through the academic journey. Moreover, beyond academics a tutor can be a beacon of support nurturing their confidence even when they doubt themselves . Last but not the least, it is about preparing your students to become the best versions of themselves. I can really bond with students…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to be patient, supportive, and adaptable. Every student learns differently, so it's important to understand their strengths and challenges and tailor lessons accordingly. A tutor should help students understand the reasoning behind concepts, not just memorise solutions, while also encouraging…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them confidence. In my experience most students had the intrinsic abilities to do well at their studies but faltered due to perceived nervousness and pressure. It is hugely important to show the students that you believe in their abilities and that there is no problem that…

I strongly feel that it is the responsibility of the tutor to make his/her student confident about what he/she knows, rather than making them learn answers by rote. It is the duty of the tutor to support, motivate, and explain things to his/her student. The tutor should also be able to find out the weaknesses of his/her student. Strengths of…

For me, the most important things a tutor could do for a student, is not teach them the material but rather teach them transferrable skills that can help them tackle any material thrown at them. Like for example in English class, if they are studying unfamiliar text I don't want to teach students to study like specific texts on past exams, but…

Since this is a 1-on-1 tutorial, the tutor must give full attention to the student. Also to find ways to make sessions enjoyable but not to the point of sacrificing the time for teaching. And again to be patient so that the student can fully understand the topics being discussed. My best quality as a tutor would be my patience. I know a lot of…

Inside Cranbourne EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Arman focused on improving multiplication using box and lattice methods, then revisited addition and subtraction skills through targeted worksheets.

In Year 8, Mahima tackled simultaneous equations by learning both the substitution and elimination methods, alongside expanding and factorising algebraic expressions.

For Year 10, Jessica concentrated on drawing linear graphs by calculating gradients and intercepts, as well as applying index laws for multiplying and dividing indices with like bases.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, messy or unclear written calculations led to confusion, especially when simplifying algebraic expressions—one tutor observed, "She needs to fix some of her maths layout, primarily on how she sets out her calculations."

A Year 10 student hesitated to ask for help with difficult worded problems and spent too long worrying about unfamiliar concepts, which slowed progress.

In senior years, a lack of double-checking persisted in probability and indices work; mistakes often went unnoticed because answers weren't reviewed.

When homework was incomplete in Year 7 algebra tasks, earlier gaps in times tables knowledge remained unaddressed.

Recent Achievements

One Cranbourne East tutoring session saw a Year 10 student finally stop needing the tutor's approval after every algebra step; she now checks her own work and only asks for feedback at the end, a big change from before when she needed reassurance throughout.

A high schooler who used to get stuck on index laws now completes homework independently and has improved her maths layout significantly.

In Year 5, one student who was hesitant about long division is starting to write out each step methodically, even converting remainders into fractions—a habit he hadn't tried before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cranbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cranbourne East Primary School.
