A good tutor can change the student's mindset and make them better people. Having a good tutor makes the subject automatically interesting and students tend to invest more time and put more effort into it. I am a very patient and dedicated person. Also, I like to make sure that every person/student I teach, understands everything thoroughly. I try…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are: 1) provide clarity, 2) build confidence, and 3) foster independent thinking. A good tutor doesn't just help students get the right answers, they help students understand the process and develop the skills to tackle future challenges on their own. Encouraging students to ask questions, think…

Ensure that the student is gaining confidence and is improving. I believe its not the final result that counts, but its ensuring the student's mental health is taken care or whilst the student is experiencing a steady improvement. I believe I am a person with strong moral values that can grasp concepts relatively quickly. I also memorise content…

According to me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be a good listener. It is very important to know and understand why a student is facing a problem in a particular situation so that it can be tackled. The tutor should also be compassionate and patient toward the student and should be able to adapt themselves as per the…

Above all else, I believe a tutor should prioritise student wellbeing. Beyond academic achievement, it's essential to foster a sense of belonging, confidence and self-worth in each student. This involves attentive listening, emotional support, and creating a safe, judgement-free space. Additionally, empowering students to take ownership of their…

I think the most important thing is to build their confidence. I know it can be challenging to be learning new concepts at school and not understand them, so I would make my students feel comfortable in coming to me with any questions no matter how small or large they are, to make themselves feel confident in their own abilities and learning…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen to them - tutoring is never one size fits all. Each approach should be more individual, so that students can not only learn, but build confidence in their abilities. I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to bring little, positive changes into their lives. Grades are important and students go to tutors to improve their grades, but tutors are capable of much more than that. Progress can be measured in so many ways - a student gradually putting in more effort to complete their…

Being supportive is very important. A tutor must give plenty of encouragement and support to a student at all times in order to help them achieve their best. A tutor is a role model to the student, and having that role should not be taken lightly. I am able to adapt my teaching style to suit different students, and present solutions to problems in…

Listening to the student is very important. You need to know when they are getting frustrated and exactly what is confusing them. Sometimes they figure out a different method for solving a problem and if you don't fully understand what they are saying you may not realise they are on the correct track. I think I am good at breaking complicated…

Inside CrawleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Tanisha focused on trigonometric functions, specifically working through where and why she finds these challenging.

In Year 10, Chloe prepared for an upcoming Matrices test by tackling matrix operations and understanding adjacency matrices as used in different graph types.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Sofia practised addition and subtraction of two- and three-digit numbers along with revision of multiplication tables for improved number fluency.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, one student often avoided writing out steps when tackling equations, preferring to "solve in his mind"—this led to confusion and errors, especially as problems became more complex.

In Year 11 English, another student struggled with essay planning and left arguments underdeveloped; a tutor noted, "he needs more practice in forming concise points which support his argument."

Meanwhile, in Year 6 Maths, a student was quick to use the calculator before attempting questions independently. These habits resulted in lost marks or incomplete understanding during assessments, causing visible frustration and dented confidence mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A Crawley tutor recently saw Chloe, a high school student, start making her own summary notes during lessons—she'd previously relied only on verbal explanations, but now refers back to her written notes when tackling practice problems in Matrices.

In another session, Gabriel, also in high school, showed a shift by recalling formulas for area and volume from memory without prompts; earlier sessions had him frequently pausing to check or ask for reminders.

Meanwhile, Flynn (Year 6) moved from needing step-by-step help with rearranging equations to working through hypotenuse problems independently after just a few guided examples.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
