Apart from the obvious requirements to provide sound academic knowledge and advice, the other aspect of tutoring that I consider most important is getting the student excited about learning. The best teachers have a successful balance of both aspects. When a tutor is excited about the content, that will get the student excited as well. An…

One of the most important thing a tutor can do is to help a student to acquire the knowledge. What it means is that the student can internally understand what is being taught as a building block, which enables the student to advance his/her learning. An important aspect of acquiring knowledge is to teach student how to think. As different…

I believe that the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to either create of amplify one's enjoyment in studying a subject, as well as creating or increasing confidence and developing a positive mindset for students who are discouraged by a course. I believe that my strengths as a tutor lie in my patience in dealing with…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student can vary, depending on the student. For e.g I had a friend who's outlook on maths was very negative, he had despised it his whole life and every time we'd have maths h would just have a frown upon his face and his mood would change. I assumed this was because he had never really…

A tutor can give personalised learning experience to students where in the student gets the attention individually which he or she is not able to get in a classroom. Also, a tutor can help in boosting the confidence and morale of the students. They help in building learning skills as well. As a tutor, I believe I have strong communucation skills…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to genuinely care about the student. When a student feels supported and encouraged, they're more likely to stay motivated and engaged. It’s not just about explaining concepts—it’s about building confidence, helping them develop problem-solving skills, and making sure they feel comfortable…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student's confidence, explain concepts clearly, and adapt teaching methods to meet their individual needs. Beyond improving grades, a tutor should teach strategies for problem-solving and independent thinking so students can succeed even without guidance. One of my key strengths…

I have realized that children need tutors who can hone a child's curiosity into skill and their academic strengths. Not only that, but I also support the idea of fun learning! I think communication is one of the most crucial skills. I believe every students, somehow, are capable of learning. So even though I don't have extraordinary skills to teach them, they will learn from my explanation. But I have to know where they are at the point of time to know exactly what and how I have to teach. Having an idea of what my…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be there for them not only as a teacher but also as a friend. Different people experience different things on a daily basis, it would be best for the student to know that they are being understood and listened to when they're having a hard time. I think that I am a pretty down-to-earth…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is remove some of the stigma the student already holds towards the subject. Often, students come to tutors due to their inability to study effectively and building up the difficulty of the subject in their head. The most important thing a tutor can do is show the student how to study effectively and…

Personalisation. In a classroom, the teacher's attention is divided and the material needs to be taught in ways that the majority understands. However, each student understands and learns differently so having it taylored to the individual (figuring out what they know, what they don't know and what they misunderstood) builds the foundation of…

Explain concepts well and set a good foundation for their learning. Additionally, the most important thing a tutor should do is encourage and teach them how to learn by themselves. Instead of only teaching the necessary information, they should try to teach students how to have fun while learning in order for them to be self-motivated, a highly…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show an interest in their ability to learn the material. Inside CremorneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Charlotte focused on units of measurement by converting between millimetres, centimetres, metres, and kilometres, and explored the difference between volume and area for various 3D shapes.

For Year 8, Olivia worked through algebraic equations involving bracket expansion and practiced simplifying expressions with numbers in the denominator.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ben tackled solving linear equations for x—including questions that involved combining like terms—and practiced working with inequalities on number lines, including remembering to flip the sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative.

Recent Challenges

In Year 5, one student was hesitant to attempt Olympiad questions independently, waiting for guidance instead of trying strategies alone; as a tutor observed, "she didn't know where to start and needed prompting before attempting solutions."

In Year 7 algebra, another avoided writing out full working, which led to missed negatives in multi-step equations.

A Year 10 student struggled with organization—falling behind on homework meant less class time could be spent tackling new or challenging problems.

During Year 12 revision, incomplete notes made it difficult to review exam topics efficiently, so critical feedback from marked tasks wasn't always taken up in future work.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Cremorne noticed that one high school student, Sienna, who previously struggled with negative numbers, now confidently solves equations involving both positive and negative values and can explain the reasoning behind each rule—a big step from needing constant guidance.

In another session, Stephanie began asking for clarification when creative writing tasks felt unclear rather than staying silent or guessing; she's also started trying new writing approaches on her own initiative.

Meanwhile, Year 3 student Theo made a shift from guessing coin combinations to methodically working out dollar and cent problems by himself—he finished his lesson accurately combining complex amounts without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mosman Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like SCECGS Redlands - Murdoch campus.
