Being a tutor is about being genuine and sincere in teaching, and to realize that we play a major role in being a witness to the students' growth. Our job is to give a pathway for students to be engaged in the subject, give a reason to why they should learn it, and for them to accomplish great things in the future. Teach not only concepts but how…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is truly be their well-wisher. I think students are coming to tutors because they know they need help. Acknowledging that they took that step, understanding the knowledge base with which they're there, teaching them in easy terms, and creating a long term plan for their studies is the…

The most important things a tutor can do for students is to teach as well as keep them motivated on their progress. A tutor shapes a child or an adult to get the best out of themselves and helps them gain courage and be brave with their studies. I have a great way of teaching in where I combine practical and application based teaching. I am…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is help a student build confidence. A lot of students already know more than they think they just need someone to believe in them, guide them, and show them how to approach problems step by step. One of my biggest strengths is patience. I never rush a student, rather I give them time to…

I think there are a few things that a tutor can do for a student - help clarify concepts and build a solid fundamentals, provide guidance by assisting them to set realistic goals and create actionable plans, and provide them with constructive feedback. I believe I can explain complex ideas in simple terms. I can also adapt my teaching style…

In my view, the most important things a tutor can do is listen patiently to the student, guide them in the right direction, build trust, encourage, and support to drive to excellence. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is help students become independent learners rather than making them dependent on the tutor. I do not believe in spoon-feeding answers all the time. Instead, I believe a tutor should guide students, encourage them to think independently, and help them build confidence in their own…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is listen. There may be other things going on either at home or at school that is preventing students from reaching their academic goals and the best way to foster a student-tutor relationship is to that you're there for them and that you understand what they're going through, in order to…

A tutor is a magician to the students. He can't do magic but he can do wonders if the chemistry between the tutor. Empathy, patience, and adaptability. Some tutors don't realise the students don't know as much as them. Tutors need to backtrack their knowledge, retrace the processes that took them there, and impart those vital steps into the students to bridge the gap. It takes time to truly understand the position and needs of students, requiring patience. And…

A good tutor should be able to clearly explain concepts and methods to their students, and should be able to answer any questions a student has and be prepared before the tutoring session for these questions. A tutor should try to think like a student tutor should try to get into the child’s mind, mostly a tutor should try to bend according to the child’s need because if a tutor is just like a machine then they won’t be able to critically analyse where the child is unable to grasp the knowledge so it’s very very important that a tutor should…

Inside CremorneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Jonas reviewed algebra concepts and perimeter for both regular and irregular shapes, then worked through an angles worksheet with extension into angle types.

Year 8 Jamie focused on comparing and simplifying fractions, followed by work on percentages, decimals, and how they relate to fractions.

For Year 10 Jonas, lessons included statistics—such as five-number summary analysis—and extending algebra skills using targeted worksheets.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student, when working through trigonometry and statistics tasks, sometimes left diagrams or graphs missing key labels—one note read, "Remember to write the title for x & y axis & Dun forget to write '0' in the left bottom corner."

In a Year 8 algebra lesson, calculation errors crept in because handwritten numbers (especially 0 and 6) were hard to distinguish; confusion led to time wasted double-checking their own work.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often hesitated on multi-step worded problems, showing less confidence and skipping answer checks after finishing. This resulted in avoidable errors persisting across sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Cremorne tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to struggle with statistics; after three weeks reviewing quartiles and box plots, he now finds Q1, median, and Q3 quickly and accurately without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who was hesitant to ask for help has started actively decoding complex algebra word problems on her own and confidently checks her process aloud as she works.

In primary, one Year 6 student recently figured out the formula for the area of a parallelogram himself after an initial explanation—something he'd found confusing before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Richmond Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Girls Grammar - Morris Hall Campus.
