I believe the most important role of a tutor is to nurture a student’s genuine curiosity and foster their willingness to overcome challenges through problem-solving and critical thinking. These skills not only support academic success but also prepare them to navigate and thrive in real-world situations. The ability to recognise and adapt to…

A tutor can turn one of the students weaknesses into his/her strength. It is the responsibility of a teacher to make sure the student understands every learning step as these adds to the basic fundamentals of learning. The tutor should ask the student questions in order to evaluate a students' understanding . A teacher should try to implement…

As tutor, the greatest impact that one can have is that of helping a student better shape and sharpen, not only their understanding of a subject but also their attitudes and philosophies towards learning. That is, to help positively reframe their perspective in a way that helps them best succeed I would say my greatest strengths as a tutor are…

Effort, by far the biggest thing a tutor can do is show the same effort the student does. Not only does this motivate the students, it might even be the reason they continue! That burning passion we all share for education might get put out or spread like a wildfire depending on the tutors effort! Mathematics, I completed general maths, getting a…

Teachers can teach lessons of life to students. Important lessons such as honesty, punctuality, kindness, helpfulness, transparency etc can be taught in the class rooms as students spend more time with their teachers. Tutor can change their role with need of time, they can be friend, motivator, guide, mentor. Teachers are builders of students…

To answer any queries first - then go ahead with the class concepts. It is so important that the student learns the foundations of their chosen subject and that these foundation principles are practiced and solid. Without these foundation, students will struggle to understand further and more complex problems, so it's up to the tutor to make sure…

Preparing consistent and easy-to-follow revision materials is key. When that's all organized, being there for any questions without judgement is also important. The most valuable thing I learnt from my tutors is organisations skills and effort. I was taught that managing time and organising oneself can reduce the stress that most students face in VCE and lower levels of education thus improving grades and overall mental well being. The knowledge that I have obtained over my years at school and the…

Maths can sometimes be frustrating for students, with a lot of students often becoming convinced that maths 'isn't their thing'. A tutor should always be supportive and encouraging whatever the situation, and help bring the most out of their students' maths learning. One of my strengths as a tutor is my communication. Explaining simply the crux of…

I believe a tutor/teacher should always strive to develop an interest about subject matter in the student. Once the student does not think of the subject as burden, he will be able to learn very efficiently. Teaching at various levels has taught me to understand students from different academic backgrounds better. Every student has a different…

The tutor should not only just teach but he should be able to build confidence in the student that he can solve any question that comes in the exam. Every student has the potential and it is the tutor who should try to help them reach that. In my opinion the main job of the tutor is to see the areas of weakness in his student. Once this is done…

A tutor can provide much greater flexibility than a teacher in a class room setting. They can identify the specific strengths and weaknesses of a student and cater to them to make the most beneficial learning experience they can. I like to break down mathematical concepts and remove as much of the distracting mathematical language as I can, so…

In my opinion, the most important thing isn't just teaching concepts properly — that's the foundation, but not the most important part. To me, it's really getting to know your students—understanding how they think, not just what they know. Because in a room full of students, everyone thinks differently: some think in pictures, some need…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are provide academic guidance, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these factors can potentially reinvent a class, subject, or school more broadly for a young learner. Some of my greatest strengths are that I'm very energetic and patient. I lean on these qualities heavily…

The most important thing would be adaptability and patience. A key role as a tutor is helping students to build up their confidence and their skillset in being able to grow as a student in a manner that works for each individual student. Learning new skills can be challenging and so as a tutor, I listen intently and encourage the students to be…

I have been using Ezy maths from the past three years now. Even though moving houses was a challenge but my sons tutoring needs were well taken care of and he had a smooth transit with his tutor. The tutor Mandeep singh is fantastic and always goes an extra mile with my son!!! I will surely recommend the company.

Inside DoreenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ava focused on simplifying and adding surds, then applied her skills to multiplying surds for area calculations.

Year 9 student Liam worked through rationalising denominators with surds and using fractional indices, as well as solving linear equations and interpreting straight line graphs.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student tackled subtraction, addition, and multiplication questions in preparation for NAPLAN numeracy, along with practising long division and timetables using school worksheets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, he skips over steps instead of slowly working through them, making it hard to spot where small calculation errors occur.

A Year 10 student was reminded that relying on a calculator for multiplication and division masked gaps in mental arithmetic; this showed up when classwork required speed without aids.

During VCE preparation, one student's incomplete revision booklet meant missing exposure to unfamiliar question types—on practice tests, this led to hesitation and lost marks.

In English (Year 7), difficulty organising essay drafts resulted in scattered ideas, making it tough to translate thoughts clearly onto the page.

Recent Achievements

One Doreen tutor noticed a big change in a Year 9 student who used to freeze up at factorisation but, after some focused practice, began recognising patterns and using the common method without hesitation—she even asked for extra examples.

In Year 11 maths, another student who'd struggled with logarithms was able to tackle extension questions independently once he grasped the basics, surprising himself by explaining his process out loud.

Meanwhile, a younger primary learner who always avoided times tables started organising her worksheets neatly and handed in all her homework on time for the first week ever.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mernda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Plenty Valley Christian College.
