I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to inspire a concrete understanding of his/her course work using interesting and enriching teaching methods. This will reduce stress in students and boost confidence, allowing them to excel in class. Being a young university student fresh out of high school, I believe my strengths…

I think providing a student with attention and understanding is the most important thing as a tutor. Many students dont get this in the school environment and need this extra support from a tutor who will provide them the learning assistance they need. I think patience is my key strength as a tutor, and I pride myself on being a person who will…

Listen to what they are struggling with and do your personal best to help the student to build confidence in themselves and in that area. Furthemore, having a good in-depth subject knowledge will be more than helpful too. I think scaffolding is the most important things a tutor can do for students. That means the tutor should provide enough guidances for the students to follow such that they can learn in a correct path but not too many instructions as it may harm the creativity of students. They need to learn knowledge but at the same time develop their own ways…

The most important things a tutor can do is to listen to the students. By listening to their problems, I shall modify my approach and pass the knowledge to them with another method. I am a patient tutor and would not be frustrated by students' question cause I was once a student that asked lots of questions. As I deal with numbers a lot, I am very…

Be a good support system. My main goal as a tutor, is to be there for my student as much as they need me, not just in studies but even if they're having a tough time. Ability to be versatile. I believe the most important things a tutor can do is to be patient. Each student has his/her own way of understanding the subject. Normally, students' struggles are due to misunderstanding some core concepts. By being patient and letting the student explain the topic in his or her own words, the tutor can diagnose the problem and guide the…

I believe that the student do most of the effort. A tutor is just there to guide them and make the process of learning easier. In practical terms, as a tutor I need to explain the topic in a practical way and be willing to repeat it until the students can answer the questions by themselves with confidence. First: Patience. I'm well aware that If…

I don't underestimate or overestimate people. Some people tend to think that every problems that are easy for them are also easy for everybody else, which is certainly not true. That kind of thinking makes teachers try to implement their learning methods to their student. However, I believe that one person's learning method doesn't necessarily…

Tutoring is not like formal teaching in the school where we teach concepts, assigns activity, monitor assess student’s academic learning. Tutoring is completely focused on what the particular student wishes to progress in; helping students in the area they aren’t confident about, making students to set a goal and achieve the target with…

Along with the subject matter, we can motivate our students and generate interest in our field. A tutor can point out the mistakes made by student and can correct them. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is, teach a student the joy of learning and adapting to new problems on their own. Inside East Victoria ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Mary worked on converting between centimeters and meters during measurement, as well as calculating perimeters of simple shapes.

Year 8 student Ethan practiced solving linear equations and explored how to represent and analyze data using histograms, mean, median, and mode.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Grace tackled scientific notation with a focus on complex questions involving indices, then applied these concepts to solve real-world problems about speed, distance, and time.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly avoided showing working when solving algebra problems, making it difficult to spot where errors occurred—he skipped showing steps in equations, which hid sign mistakes.

In Year 4, distraction by surrounding objects was a barrier during multiplication tasks; the urge to fidget led to missed details and unfinished answers.

A Year 10 student lost motivation after setbacks with linear equations, giving up quickly when unsure rather than attempting strategies discussed previously.

One senior student relied on saying answers aloud without checking units or calculations, resulting in marks lost for incomplete responses during practice assessments.

Recent Achievements

In one East Victoria Park tutoring session, a Year 10 student, who previously hesitated to ask for help, started talking aloud through her working and voicing when she was stuck on equations—showing new independence in tackling maths problems.

A high school student recently mastered data analysis and began applying Pythagoras' Theorem basics after initially struggling with square roots. Another upper-year learner put real effort into reviewing past topics in depth and answered more confidently than before.

In one primary lesson, a young student chose to read every page out loud together, even trying harder verbs despite stumbling earlier.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like East Victoria Park Primary School.
