The most important thing I can do for a student is give them the ability to be confident in their own knowledge to attack any problem head on. I will never solve a problem for them, however I will always support them and give them the necessary tools to be able to do it on their own. Having been part of the first year of ATAR and achieving a…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to make the subject matter enjoyable for students. 1. I believe my strengths would be being able to empathise with students, having a positive attitude towards learning, teaching and my subject, I have excellent communication skills and I'm patient and tolerant. 2. While I was a peer tutor, I…

If the tutor can give the student space to figure out the solutions to their problems and only step in once the student shows signs of struggling it is more beneficial for the student as this method will allow the student to learn to solve problems on their own. I am able to adapt my approach to teaching concepts for each student, meaning that I…

A student comes to a tutor because they struggle to understand the knowledge and they cannot communicate their struggles in school, hence they look up to us. So its very important to understand their problems, get simple solutions which makes it easier for them to grasp and then apply them. I believe my strengths are communication, making students…

I believe a tutor shouldn't just focus on helping out their students during sessions. Tutors should be focused on making plans before their sessions, learning from their students' strengths and weaknesses. They should be passionate about their students' grades as much as their own. My strengths as a tutor include: - Taking notes of students'…

Helping them complete their work is part of the job. However, the most important thing is making sure students are relaxed. If they are getting overwhelmed they shouldn't be pushed because then it'll make them feel like they can't do it. So tackling their weaknesses at a realistic pace will help them not feel pressured to understand straight away.…

There are various skills and attitudes that a tutor should have inorder for the student to enjoy and learn during lesson time. Being able to build rapport was one of the skills that a tutor should have its a way for the student to be comfortable. Moreover, being attentive to the student is a way of making the lesson flow smoothly. For instance…

Local Reviews

Duane is friendly, excellent at communicating with his student, and he is also punctual. Most of all, Duane has a lot of knowledge about Math. He was really able to help Arabella with her Maths questions. Also, Duane is patient with Arabella, he is able to adjust his explanation according to how Arabella will be able understand the Math problems. Nevertheless, Duane is the right tutor for Arabella. He is one of the gems in your company. In his second time coming back to tutor Arabella, we can say that we're satisfied and very happy, and he is highly recommended.

Inside Eatons HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Kiaan worked on reading comprehension and handwriting through targeted exercises, alongside practicing spelling and basic addition.

In Year 10, Jack tackled trigonometric ratios—focusing on Sine and Cosine Rule applications—and solved problems involving ambiguous cases in triangles.

For Year 12, Sarah reviewed integration techniques and their applications to displacement and velocity questions, linking calculus concepts directly to worded motion scenarios using diagrams for clarity.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Maths Methods, not bringing class notes or a notebook ("forgot for the first lesson") led to confusion during assignment work and made it harder to review mistakes.

One senior student had an incomplete practice exam before tutoring, which meant gaps weren't addressed in time for upcoming assessments.

In Year 8 algebra lessons, unclear written working made it difficult to spot where steps went wrong—"setting out and making sure their working is understandable needs improvement."

Meanwhile, a Year 2 student often guessed words instead of sounding them out, so reading accuracy didn't improve with practice.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Eatons Hill noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated with compound interest problems now accurately remembers each part of the formula and can transfer this skill to new topics like loan repayments, showing much more independence during sessions.

Another high schooler who often relied on step-by-step help is starting to rearrange algebraic equations independently and recently completed all simultaneous equation questions on their own.

Meanwhile, a younger student has shifted from guessing sight words to pausing, sounding them out, and reading entire pages aloud with only minimal prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albany Creek Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eatons Hill State School.
